SSC MTS GK Questions 2026

Static GK decides the General Awareness score in SSC MTS. The 2025 notice keeps the syllabus at the 10th Standard: History, Geography, Art and Culture, Civics and Economics under Social Studies, General Science and Environmental Studies. Most of the 25 questions in Session-II come from these areas. History asks the Harappan sites, the Mauryas and Guptas, the Sultanate and Mughal rulers and the freedom movement. Geography asks rivers, soils, crops, minerals, national parks, States, capitals and neighbours. Civics asks the Constitution's Parts, Schedules and Articles, Fundamental Rights and Duties, the President, Parliament, the Supreme Court and local government. Economics asks basic terms, the RBI, taxes and schemes. General Science covers Class 6 to 10 Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and Environmental Studies asks ecosystems, pollution and conservation. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for SSC MTS, written as short facts and tables at exactly that level so a topic can be finished in one sitting and revised in ten minutes. Read a topic, then solve its previous-year questions and quiz on this site to see what stayed with you, and keep the notes for the last-week revision before the CBE.

Where is Lakshadweep located?

  1. A.Bay of Bengal
  2. B.Pacific ocean
  3. C.Arabian sea
  4. D.Atlantic ocean
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Arabian sea

Lakshadweep is a group of small coral islands, atolls and reefs lying off the Malabar coast of Kerala in the Arabian Sea, built on a submarine ridge.

Q4282.General ScienceMedium

The resistance of a uniform metallic wire is

  1. A.directly proportional to its area of cross section
  2. B.inversely proportional to its length
  3. C.directly proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its area of cross section
  4. D.independent of both length and area of cross section
Show answer
Correct answer: C. directly proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its area of cross section

The resistance of a wire equals the resistivity of the material multiplied by the length and divided by the area of cross section.

Q4284.General ScienceHard

Two magnetic field lines can never intersect each other because

  1. A.the field would then be zero at that point
  2. B.there would be two directions of the field at the same point, which is impossible
  3. C.the lines are imaginary
  4. D.the magnetic poles always exist in pairs
Show answer
Correct answer: B. there would be two directions of the field at the same point, which is impossible

The tangent drawn to a magnetic field line at any point gives the direction of the field at that point.

Q4286.General ScienceEasy

Electromagnetic induction was discovered by

  1. A.Hans Christian Oersted
  2. B.Michael Faraday
  3. C.Alessandro Volta
  4. D.James Watt
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Michael Faraday

In 1831 Faraday showed that when the magnetic flux linked with a closed coil changes, whether by moving a magnet, moving the coil or changing the current in a nearby coil, a current is induced in it.

Q4287.General ScienceMedium

Fleming's left hand rule is used to find the direction of

  1. A.the induced current in a generator
  2. B.the force on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field
  3. C.the magnetic field around a solenoid
  4. D.the potential difference across a resistor
Show answer
Correct answer: B. the force on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field

In Fleming's left hand rule the forefinger, the middle finger and the thumb of the left hand are held at right angles to one another: the forefinger points along the magnetic field, the middle finger along the current, and the thumb then gives the direction of the force.

Q4288.General ScienceMedium

The direction of the magnetic field produced around a straight current-carrying conductor is given by

  1. A.Fleming's left hand rule
  2. B.the right hand thumb rule
  3. C.Fleming's right hand rule
  4. D.Lenz's law
Show answer
Correct answer: B. the right hand thumb rule

Hold the conductor in your right hand with the thumb stretched along the direction of the conventional current; the way your fingers curl round the wire is the direction of the concentric magnetic field lines.

Q4291.General ScienceAsked in: RRB Group D · 10 Oct 2018, Shift 2Medium

Which of the following is NOT based on the heating effect of current?

  1. A.Electric heater
  2. B.Electric bulb (with filament)
  3. C.Electric iron
  4. D.Microwave
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Microwave

A microwave oven does not cook by passing a current through a resistance. It generates microwaves in a magnetron, and these waves make the water molecules in the food rotate rapidly, so the food heats from within by dielectric heating.

Q4292.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · 01 Sep 2019, Shift 2Easy

What is the work done to move a unit charge from one point to another in an electric circuit carrying some current, between those two points?

  1. A.Pressure distance
  2. B.Potential difference
  3. C.Potential distance
  4. D.Pressure difference
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Potential difference

The potential difference between two points in a circuit is defined as the work done in moving a unit positive charge from one point to the other.

Q4293.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · 27 May 2019, Shift 1Easy

If the potential difference across the ends of a conductor is halved, what happens to the current flowing through it?

  1. A.It gets increased
  2. B.It gets doubled
  3. C.It gets decreased
  4. D.It gets halved
Show answer
Correct answer: D. It gets halved

By Ohm's law, at a constant temperature the current through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across its ends, since the current equals the potential difference divided by the resistance.

'Sengol', installed in the new Parliament building of India, was seen as a symbol of the path of service, duty and nation in which Empire of the past?

  1. A.Gupta Empire
  2. B.Shunga Empire
  3. C.Pandyan Empire
  4. D.Chola Empire
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Chola Empire

The Sengol is a gold-plated silver sceptre topped by a figure of Nandi. In the Chola tradition, a new king received such a sceptre from a high priest as a symbol of the transfer of power and of the ruler's duty to govern justly.
