SSC CHSL GK Questions 2026

Static GK decides the General Awareness score in SSC CHSL. Of the 25 questions in Tier-I and the 20 in Tier-II, most come from Indian Polity, History, Geography, the Economy and General Science, the areas the CHSL 2026 notice lists as History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy and Scientific Research relating to India and its neighbouring countries. The level is that of Class 12, so the questions are direct: which article, which river, which ruler, which year. Polity asks about parts and schedules of the Constitution, fundamental rights, the President, Parliament, the Supreme Court and constitutional bodies. History covers the Indus Valley, the Mauryas and Guptas, the Sultanate and Mughal periods, and the freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947. Geography asks about rivers, soils, climate, national parks, minerals and world physical features. The Economy part asks about budget terms, the RBI, banking and basic concepts. General Science is school-level Physics, Chemistry and Biology with everyday applications, and Culture covers dances, festivals, monuments and books. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for SSC CHSL, written as short facts and tables so a topic can be revised in one sitting. Read a topic, then solve its previous-year questions and quiz on this site to check what you retained.

SSC CHSL GK Questions with Answers

Q10346.GeographyMedium

The Narmada and the Tapi are unusual among peninsular rivers because they

  1. A.rise in the Himalaya
  2. B.flow through rift valleys and drain into the Arabian Sea
  3. C.form large deltas on the eastern coast
  4. D.are entirely seasonal streams
Show answer
Correct answer: B. flow through rift valleys and drain into the Arabian Sea

Both rivers flow westward along faulted troughs, or rift valleys, that lie between the Vindhya and the Satpura ranges, and both empty into the Arabian Sea through estuaries instead of deltas.

Q10349.GeographyAsked in: Delhi · 20 April 2021, Shift 1Easy

Where is Lakshadweep located?

  1. A.Bay of Bengal
  2. B.Pacific ocean
  3. C.Arabian sea
  4. D.Atlantic ocean
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Arabian sea

Lakshadweep is a group of small coral islands, atolls and reefs lying off the Malabar coast of Kerala in the Arabian Sea, built on a submarine ridge.

Q10350.General ScienceMedium

The resistance of a uniform metallic wire is

  1. A.directly proportional to its area of cross section
  2. B.inversely proportional to its length
  3. C.directly proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its area of cross section
  4. D.independent of both length and area of cross section
Show answer
Correct answer: C. directly proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its area of cross section

The resistance of a wire equals the resistivity of the material multiplied by the length and divided by the area of cross section.

Q10352.General ScienceHard

Two magnetic field lines can never intersect each other because

  1. A.the field would then be zero at that point
  2. B.there would be two directions of the field at the same point, which is impossible
  3. C.the lines are imaginary
  4. D.the magnetic poles always exist in pairs
Show answer
Correct answer: B. there would be two directions of the field at the same point, which is impossible

The tangent drawn to a magnetic field line at any point gives the direction of the field at that point.

Q10354.General ScienceEasy

Electromagnetic induction was discovered by

  1. A.Hans Christian Oersted
  2. B.Michael Faraday
  3. C.Alessandro Volta
  4. D.James Watt
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Michael Faraday

In 1831 Faraday showed that when the magnetic flux linked with a closed coil changes, whether by moving a magnet, moving the coil or changing the current in a nearby coil, a current is induced in it.

Q10355.General ScienceMedium

Fleming's left hand rule is used to find the direction of

  1. A.the induced current in a generator
  2. B.the force on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field
  3. C.the magnetic field around a solenoid
  4. D.the potential difference across a resistor
Show answer
Correct answer: B. the force on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field

In Fleming's left hand rule the forefinger, the middle finger and the thumb of the left hand are held at right angles to one another: the forefinger points along the magnetic field, the middle finger along the current, and the thumb then gives the direction of the force.

Q10356.General ScienceMedium

The direction of the magnetic field produced around a straight current-carrying conductor is given by

  1. A.Fleming's left hand rule
  2. B.the right hand thumb rule
  3. C.Fleming's right hand rule
  4. D.Lenz's law
Show answer
Correct answer: B. the right hand thumb rule

Hold the conductor in your right hand with the thumb stretched along the direction of the conventional current; the way your fingers curl round the wire is the direction of the concentric magnetic field lines.

Q10358.General ScienceAsked in: RRB Group D · 6 Oct 2022, Shift 1Medium

A 12 V battery is connected across an unknown resistor. If a current of 2 mA is flowing through the circuit, the value of the resistance is _________ .

  1. A.600 ohm
  2. B.6 ohm
  3. C.6000 ohm
  4. D.60 ohm
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 6000 ohm

By Ohm's law the resistance equals the potential difference divided by the current. Here the current must first be converted into the base unit: two milliampere is 0.002 ampere.

Which of the following is NOT based on the heating effect of current?

  1. A.Electric heater
  2. B.Electric bulb (with filament)
  3. C.Electric iron
  4. D.Microwave
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Microwave

A microwave oven does not cook by passing a current through a resistance. It generates microwaves in a magnetron, and these waves make the water molecules in the food rotate rapidly, so the food heats from within by dielectric heating.

What is the work done to move a unit charge from one point to another in an electric circuit carrying some current, between those two points?

  1. A.Pressure distance
  2. B.Potential difference
  3. C.Potential distance
  4. D.Pressure difference
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Potential difference

The potential difference between two points in a circuit is defined as the work done in moving a unit positive charge from one point to the other.
