RRB Group D GK Questions 2026

Static GK is not a separate section in RRB Group D, but it decides most of the paper's recall marks. General Science is 25 questions of Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard (CBSE) level as per CEN 09/2025, and the 20 General Awareness questions lean on the standing facts behind the news: the sport, the award, the institution, the state, the river or the scientist an event touches. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB Group D. The General Science notes go topic by topic through motion and force, work, energy and power, gravitation, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism, atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, and carbon compounds, and the Life Sciences notes cover cells, the human body, nutrition, diseases, plants and genetics. The static GK notes cover Indian Railways zones and facts, national symbols, first and largest in India and the world, awards and honours, important days, books and authors, sports GK, art and culture, and the basics of Indian Polity, Geography, History and the Economy. Each note is short facts and tables that can be revised in one sitting. Read a note, then solve its quiz and the previous-year questions on this site to check what stayed.

Q1462.GeographyEasy

The Himalaya was formed by which type of plate boundary?

  1. A.Divergent boundary
  2. B.Transform boundary
  3. C.Convergent boundary of continent and continent
  4. D.Convergent boundary of ocean and ocean
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Convergent boundary of continent and continent

The Indian plate moved northwards and met the Eurasian plate. Both carry light continental crust, so neither could sink far into the mantle; instead the sediments of the Tethys Sea lying between them were compressed, folded and thrust upwards to form the Himalaya, and the collision is still going on…

Q1463.GeographyMedium

The concept of sea floor spreading was given by:

  1. A.Alfred Wegener
  2. B.Harry Hess
  3. C.Alfred Lothar Nazca
  4. D.Edward Suess
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Harry Hess

After the detailed mapping of the ocean floor during and after the Second World War revealed mid-oceanic ridges, deep trenches and a surprisingly thin cover of sediment, Hess proposed in 1961 that molten material rises along the ridge, forms new ocean floor and pushes the older floor away on both…

Which pair of forces did Wegener suggest as the cause of continental drift?

  1. A.Ridge push and slab pull
  2. B.Pole-fleeing force and tidal force
  3. C.Isostasy and gravity
  4. D.Convection currents and radioactivity
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Pole-fleeing force and tidal force

Wegener attributed the horizontal movement of the continents to the pole-fleeing force, which arises from the rotation of the earth and the bulge of the equator, and to the tidal force, which arises from the attraction of the moon and the sun.

Q1467.GeographyEasy

The theory of continental drift was propounded by:

  1. A.Alfred Wegener
  2. B.Harry Hess
  3. C.Arthur Holmes
  4. D.Charles Lyell
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Alfred Wegener

Wegener, a German meteorologist and climatologist, put forward the continental drift theory in 1912 and developed it in his book The Origin of Continents and Oceans; he argued that all the continents once formed a single landmass, Pangaea, which broke up about two hundred million years ago.

The endosperm of an angiosperm seed is triploid because it is formed by:

  1. A.Fusion of two male gametes
  2. B.Triple fusion of a male gamete with two polar nuclei
  3. C.Division of the zygote
  4. D.Fusion of the egg with a synergid
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Triple fusion of a male gamete with two polar nuclei

An angiosperm shows double fertilisation: of the two male gametes brought by the pollen tube, one fuses with the egg to give a diploid zygote, and the other fuses with the two polar nuclei of the central cell.

  1. A.Sequoia
  2. B.Ginkgo biloba
  3. C.Equisetum
  4. D.Rafflesia
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Ginkgo biloba

It is the only surviving species of its order, has remained almost unchanged for many millions of years and is known from fossils of the age of the dinosaurs, which is why it is called a living fossil; it is a gymnosperm with fan-shaped leaves, grown widely as an ornamental…

  1. A.Phycoerythrin
  2. B.Fucoxanthin
  3. C.Phycocyanin
  4. D.Anthocyanin
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Fucoxanthin

Brown algae of the class Phaeophyceae contain chlorophyll a and c along with the xanthophyll pigment fucoxanthin, and because fucoxanthin masks the green chlorophyll the plant looks olive green to deep brown; Laminaria, Sargassum, Fucus, Ectocarpus and Dictyota are examples, and many of them bear air bladders that keep the…

  1. A.Algae
  2. B.Bryophytes
  3. C.Pteridophytes
  4. D.Gymnosperms
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Pteridophytes

Ferns and their relatives, such as Selaginella, Lycopodium, Equisetum, Pteris, Adiantum and Marsilea, are the first plants with xylem to conduct water and minerals and phloem to conduct food, and the first with a true root, stem and leaf; for that reason they are also called the vascular cryptogams.

  3. C.Have both roots and rhizoids
  4. D.Can photosynthesise as well as absorb food
Show answer
