Who was the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh?
- A.Sampurnanand
- B.Govind Ballabh Pant
- C.Chandra Bhanu Gupta
- D.Kamalapati Tripathi
Correct answer
Explanation
The correct answer is B, Govind Ballabh Pant. Pant headed the government of the United Provinces from 1937 and continued as the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh when the state took its present name in 1950, holding the office until 1954, after which he became Union Home Minister. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1957.
Option A, Sampurnanand, succeeded him as Chief Minister in 1954 and is the name after which the Sanskrit university at Varanasi is called, which makes him the strongest distractor. Option C, Chandra Bhanu Gupta, held the office later, in the nineteen sixties. Option D, Kamalapati Tripathi, was Chief Minister in the nineteen seventies. The order of the first few Chief Ministers is asked directly, so remember Pant first, then Sampurnanand, and Sucheta Kripalani as the first woman in the office.
