Explanation

The correct answer is C, 1, 2 and 3. On 13 April 1919 troops fired without any warning on an unarmed crowd in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, on the orders of Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer.

The crowd had gathered on Baisakhi day, partly to protest against the Rowlatt Act and the arrest of the local leaders Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal. Dyer blocked the narrow exit and ordered about ten minutes of firing, until the ammunition ran low; official figures put the dead at 379, though the real toll was higher. The Hunter Committee inquired into the firing, and Dyer admitted before it that he had given no warning. Rabindranath Tagore gave up his knighthood in protest, and in 1940 Udham Singh shot Michael O'Dwyer, the Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab at the time.

A is wrong: it leaves out the true statements 2 and 3.

B is wrong: it leaves out statement 3; no warning was given.

D is wrong: it leaves out statement 1, the firing on an unarmed crowd.
