Hiralal Shastri, a leader of the Jaipur Praja Mandal who had led its satyagraha in 1939, took charge as the first Prime Minister of Greater Rajasthan in 1949, the office that later came to be called Chief Minister.

The Matsya Union, the first stage of the integration of Rajasthan, was formed on 18 March 1948 out of only four princely states of the eastern edge of Rajputana: Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur and Karauli.

Akbar sent the Kachhwaha ruler of Amer, Man Singh I, to command at Haldighati, with Asaf Khan beside him. The detail matters in exams because it makes the battle a contest between two Rajput houses in different political positions: Amer had accepted the Mughal alliance, while Mewar refused it.

The seventh stage, on 1 November 1956, brought the Abu Road tehsil from Bombay state into Rajasthan, together with Ajmer-Merwara and the Sunel Tappa area, and this is how Mount Abu became a part of Rajasthan.

When Udaipur joined the Rajasthan Union on 18 April 1948 the enlarged body was named the United State of Rajasthan, with Udaipur as capital, the Maharana of Udaipur as Rajpramukh and Manikya Lal Verma, the founder of the Mewar Praja Mandal, as Prime Minister.

The Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by Sawai Pratap Singh of Jaipur to a design by the architect Lal Chand Ustad.

The States Reorganisation Act, 1956 ended the hereditary office of Rajpramukh, which had been filled by a former ruler, and replaced it with a Governor appointed by the President in the ordinary way under the Constitution.

Maharana Pratap was born in 1540 at Kumbhalgarh in the present Rajsamand district, the hill fort that Rana Kumbha had built in the previous century, and which served Mewar as a refuge whenever Chittor itself was under threat.
