NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. NDA GK Questions with Answers

Q1602.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2023, GATEasy

Which one of the following is the correct arrangement of metals in the decreasing order of their reactivity?

  1. A.Iron, Sodium, Silver, Copper
  2. B.Silver, Copper, Iron, Sodium
  3. C.Sodium, Copper, Silver, Iron
  4. D.Sodium, Iron, Copper, Silver
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Sodium, Iron, Copper, Silver

This matches the reactivity series, which lists metals from the most to the least reactive. Sodium is near the top: it reacts violently with cold water and is stored under kerosene.

Q1603.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2025, GATEasy

Which one of the following salts is responsible for temporary hardness of water?

  1. A.Sulphates of calcium
  2. B.Chlorides of magnesium
  3. C.Bicarbonates of magnesium
  4. D.Sulphates of magnesium
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Bicarbonates of magnesium

Temporary hardness is caused by the bicarbonates (hydrogencarbonates) of calcium and magnesium dissolved in water. It is called temporary because it can be removed simply by boiling: on heating, the soluble bicarbonates break down into insoluble carbonates, or magnesium hydroxide, which settle out, and carbon dioxide escapes.

Q1604.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2019, GATMedium

Which one of the following will NOT produce carbon dioxide on reacting with an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid?

  1. A.Limestone
  2. B.Quick Lime
  3. C.Chalk
  4. D.Marble
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Quick Lime

Quick lime is calcium oxide (CaO), which contains no carbonate, so it gives no carbon dioxide with an acid. Acids release carbon dioxide only from carbonates and hydrogencarbonates: the general reaction is metal carbonate plus acid gives salt, water and carbon dioxide.

Q1605.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2021, GATMedium

Common salt (NaCl) is not used as a raw material for preparation of which one of the following compounds?

  1. A.Bleaching powder
  2. B.Baking soda
  3. C.Plaster of Paris
  4. D.Washing soda
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Plaster of Paris

Plaster of Paris is made from gypsum, not from common salt. When gypsum, calcium sulphate dihydrate (CaSO4·2H2O), is heated to about 373 K, it loses part of its water and becomes calcium sulphate hemihydrate (CaSO4·½H2O), which is Plaster of Paris; it sets hard again when mixed with water and is…

Q1608.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2023, GATMedium

What is the specific purpose of using potassium hydroxide during the saponification process?

  1. A.To obtain soaps which are hard on the skin
  2. B.To obtain soaps which are soft on the skin
  3. C.To obtain natural fragrance
  4. D.To make the saponification very economical
Show answer
Correct answer: B. To obtain soaps which are soft on the skin

Potassium hydroxide gives potassium soaps, which are softer and milder than sodium soaps. Saponification is the reaction in which an oil or fat is heated with an alkali to give soap, the sodium or potassium salt of a long-chain fatty acid, and glycerol.

Q1611.Indian HistoryAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2021, GATHard

Which one of the following Harappan sites was a specialised centre for making shell objects?

  1. A.Lothal
  2. B.Balakot
  3. C.Amri
  4. D.Kot Diji
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Balakot

Q1612.Indian EconomyAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2017, GATEasy

Surge pricing takes place when a service provider

  1. A.raises the price of its product or service as demand outstrips supply
  2. B.follows preset prices immune to demand and supply dynamics
  3. C.fixes a minimum price for its services
  4. D.fixes an average price on the basis of transactions carried over a day
Show answer
Correct answer: A. raises the price of its product or service as demand outstrips supply

Surge pricing is a form of dynamic pricing in which the price moves up when demand rises faster than the available supply.

Q1616.GeographyAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2024, GATMedium

Which of the following statements regarding humidity is/are correct?

1. It is a ratio between the actual amount of water vapour present in the atmosphere and the maximum amount it can hold at a given temperature.

2. When the relative humidity is high, more water evaporates from the skin.

3. Higher the air temperature lower the relative humidity of the air.

Select the answer using the code given below:

  1. A.1 only
  2. B.2 and 3 only
  3. C.1 and 3 only
  4. D.1, 2 and 3
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 1 and 3 only

Relative humidity compares the moisture in the air with what the air could hold, and that capacity rises with temperature.

Q1619.GeographyAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2026, GATMedium

Consider the following statements about temperature inversion:

I. This happens when normal lapse rate gets inverted.

II. Winter nights with cloudy skies are conducive for temperature inversion.

III. Polar areas experience inversion throughout the year.

Which of the statements given above are correct?

  1. A.I and II only
  2. B.II and III only
  3. C.I and III only
  4. D.I, II and III
Show answer
Correct answer: C. I and III only

Temperature inversion needs rapid cooling of the ground, which happens under clear skies, not cloudy ones. Statement I is correct: normally temperature falls with height, but during an inversion a layer of warmer air lies above cooler air near the ground, so the normal lapse rate is reversed.
