NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for NDA, in English and Hindi, written as short facts and tables. Read a topic, then solve its quiz and previous-year questions on this site.

NDA GK Questions with Answers

Q1442.General ScienceHard

The elastic potential energy stored per unit volume of a stretched wire is equal to

  1. A.Stress multiplied by strain
  2. B.One half multiplied by stress multiplied by strain
  3. C.Stress divided by strain
  4. D.Two multiplied by stress multiplied by strain
Show answer
Correct answer: B. One half multiplied by stress multiplied by strain

The restoring force grows from zero to its final value as the wire is stretched, so the work done is the average force multiplied by the extension, and dividing by the volume of the wire leaves half the product of stress and strain as the energy stored in each unit…

Q1443.General ScienceMedium

Poisson's ratio of a material is defined as the ratio of

  1. A.Stress to strain
  2. B.Lateral strain to longitudinal strain
  3. C.Longitudinal strain to lateral strain
  4. D.Shear stress to shear strain
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Lateral strain to longitudinal strain

When a wire is pulled it lengthens and at the same time grows thinner, and Poisson's ratio records how large the sideways contraction is compared with the lengthwise extension; it is a pure number, with theoretical limits of minus one and one half and practical values of about 0.2 to…

Q1444.General ScienceEasy

Which of the following statements about steel and rubber is correct in physics?

  1. A.Rubber is more elastic because it stretches more
  2. B.Steel is more elastic because its modulus of elasticity is much larger
  3. C.Both have equal elasticity
  4. D.Neither is elastic, since both are solids
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Steel is more elastic because its modulus of elasticity is much larger

Elasticity in physics is not the ability to stretch far but the strength of the restoring tendency, measured by the stress needed to produce a given strain, and steel demands an enormously greater stress than rubber for the same fractional extension.

Q1447.General ScienceEasy

Strain is a quantity that has

  1. A.The unit newton per square metre
  2. B.No unit and no dimensions
  3. C.The unit metre
  4. D.The same unit as energy
Show answer
Correct answer: B. No unit and no dimensions

Strain is defined as the change in a dimension divided by the original value of the same dimension, a length divided by a length or a volume divided by a volume, so the units cancel and only a pure number survives.

Q1448.General ScienceEasy

The SI unit of stress is the

  1. A.Newton
  2. B.Joule
  3. C.Pascal
  4. D.Watt
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Pascal

Stress is the restoring force divided by the area over which it acts, so its unit is the newton per square metre, and that combination is given the special name pascal, the same unit used for pressure.

Q1449.General ScienceEasy

Hooke's law states that within the elastic limit

  1. A.Stress is directly proportional to strain
  2. B.Stress is inversely proportional to strain
  3. C.Strain is independent of stress
  4. D.Stress is proportional to the square of the strain
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Stress is directly proportional to strain

Hooke found that so long as a body is not strained beyond its elastic limit, the restoring force per unit area rises in step with the fractional deformation, and the constant ratio of the two is called the modulus of elasticity.

Q1451.General ScienceHard

The translocation of sugars through the phloem is best explained by which hypothesis?

  1. A.Cohesion tension hypothesis
  2. B.Pressure flow hypothesis of Munch
  3. C.Root pressure theory
  4. D.Imbibition theory
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Pressure flow hypothesis of Munch

Sugar is actively loaded into the sieve tubes at the source, water follows from the xylem by osmosis and raises the pressure there, and the resulting gradient pushes the whole solution to the sink, where sugar is unloaded and water returns to the xylem.

Q1454.General ScienceEasy

The Krebs cycle takes place in which part of the cell?

  1. A.Ribosome
  2. B.Mitochondrial matrix
  3. C.Golgi apparatus
  4. D.Nucleus
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Mitochondrial matrix

Pyruvic acid formed in glycolysis enters the mitochondrion, is converted to acetyl coenzyme A and is oxidised completely in the matrix through the cycle named after Hans Krebs, who received the Nobel Prize for the discovery; the cycle releases carbon dioxide and reduced coenzymes.

Q1455.General ScienceEasy

Glycolysis, the first step in the breakdown of glucose, takes place in which part of the cell?

  1. A.Cytoplasm
  2. B.Mitochondrial matrix
  3. C.Inner mitochondrial membrane
  4. D.Chloroplast stroma
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Cytoplasm

Glycolysis, also called the Embden Meyerhof Parnas pathway, splits one molecule of glucose into two molecules of pyruvic acid in the cytoplasm, needs no oxygen and gives a net gain of two ATP along with two molecules of reduced NAD.

Q1457.General ScienceMedium

The opening of stomata is brought about by the movement of which ion into the guard cells?

  1. A.Sodium
  2. B.Calcium
  3. C.Potassium
  4. D.Magnesium
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Potassium

In light, potassium ions are actively pumped into the guard cells, their solute concentration rises, water enters by osmosis, the cells swell and because their inner walls are thicker they bend apart, opening the pore; when potassium leaves, the cells lose water and the pore closes.

Q1459.General ScienceEasy

The loss of water in liquid form from the margins of leaves through special pores is called

  1. A.transpiration
  2. B.guttation
  3. C.bleeding
  4. D.imbibition
Show answer
Correct answer: B. guttation

It occurs through pores called hydathodes at the leaf margin or tip, usually in the early morning when the soil is moist, the air is humid and transpiration is low, so root pressure forces out drops of water with dissolved salts; Colocasia, grasses and tomato show it well.

Q1460.General ScienceMedium

The ascent of sap to the top of a tall tree is explained mainly by which force?

  1. A.Root pressure
  2. B.Capillarity alone
  3. C.Transpiration pull under the cohesion tension theory
  4. D.Active transport by xylem vessels
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Transpiration pull under the cohesion tension theory

Dixon and Joly explained that water molecules cling to one another by cohesion and to the xylem walls by adhesion, forming an unbroken column; evaporation from the leaf surface creates a suction at the top that pulls this column upward.
