NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for NDA, in English and Hindi, written as short facts and tables. Read a topic, then solve its quiz and previous-year questions on this site.

Q5443.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · 14 Nov 2021Easy

A ray of light travelling from a rarer medium to a denser medium:

  1. A.slows down and bends away from the normal
  2. B.slows down and bends towards the normal
  3. C.speeds up and bends away from the normal
  4. D.speeds up and bends towards the normal
Show answer
Correct answer: B. slows down and bends towards the normal

A denser medium has a higher refractive index, and the refractive index is the speed of light in vacuum divided by its speed in the medium, so light must travel more slowly inside it.

Which one of the following process is NOT useful for purification of solid impurities?

  1. A.Distillation
  2. B.Sublimation
  3. C.Crystallization
  4. D.All of the above
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Distillation

Distillation separates a liquid from a solution or from another liquid by boiling it and condensing the vapour, so it is used when the components differ in boiling point, as in getting pure water from salt water or separating acetone from water.

Thermodynamically the most stable form of carbon is

  1. A.Coal
  2. B.Fullerenes
  3. C.Graphite
  4. D.Diamond
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Graphite

Among the allotropes of carbon, graphite has the lowest standard enthalpy of formation, which is taken as zero, so it is the reference state and the most stable form under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure.

Work done by conservative force is equal to

  1. A.Decrease in potential energy
  2. B.Increase in kinetic energy
  3. C.Increase in potential energy
  4. D.Decrease in kinetic energy
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Decrease in potential energy

A conservative force is one whose work depends only on the starting and the finishing point, not on the path taken, and whose work around any closed path is zero.

Which pair won the bronze medal for India in the squash mixed team event at the Asian Games?

  1. A.Manush Shah and Diya Chitale
  2. B.Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar
  3. C.Tilottama Sen and Ashi Chouksey
  4. D.Prachi Choudhary and Tajinderpal Singh
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar

The pair won bronze in the squash mixed team event, and for Joshna the medal extended a remarkable run of consistency, since she has played at consecutive Asian Games and taken a medal at every edition since 2010.

Covalently bonded molecules have low melting and boiling points because:

  1. A.Intermolecular forces are medium
  2. B.Intermolecular forces are strong
  3. C.Intermolecular forces are very strong
  4. D.Intermolecular forces are weak
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Intermolecular forces are weak

Melting and boiling only have to break the weak forces between the molecules, not the strong bonds inside them, so little heat is needed.

A wooden block of mass m1 kg accelerates at 10 m/s² when a force of 5 N acts on it. Another block of mass m2 kg accelerates at 20 m/s² when the same force acts on it. If both the blocks are tied together and the same force acts on their combination, the acceleration will be about:

  1. A.6.67 m/s²
  2. B.1.67 m/s²
  3. C.5.67 m/s²
  4. D.4.67 m/s²
Show answer
Correct answer: A. 6.67 m/s²

Find each mass from F = ma, add the masses, then divide the same force by the total. The first block gives m1 = 5 ÷ 10 = 0.5 kg and the second gives m2 = 5 ÷ 20 = 0.25 kg.
