NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for NDA, in English and Hindi, written as short facts and tables. Read a topic, then solve its quiz and previous-year questions on this site.

Who designed the Param Vir Chakra medal?

  1. A.Savitri Khanolkar
  2. B.Nandalal Bose
  3. C.Pingali Venkayya
  4. D.Deenanath Bhargava
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Savitri Khanolkar

Born in Switzerland, she married an officer of the Indian Army, settled in India and studied its languages, art and traditions closely, and when the new republic needed its own decorations she was asked to design them.

Who was the first recipient of the Param Vir Chakra?

  1. A.Second Lieutenant Rama Raghoba Rane
  2. B.Major Somnath Sharma
  3. C.Lance Naik Karam Singh
  4. D.Naik Jadunath Singh
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Major Somnath Sharma

On 3 November 1947 Major Sharma of the 4th battalion of the Kumaon Regiment held the village of Badgam near Srinagar with one company against a far larger raiding force, and by refusing to pull back he kept the Srinagar airfield from falling, on which the whole airlift of Indian…

According to Graham s law, the rate of diffusion of a gas is

  1. A.directly proportional to its molar mass
  2. B.inversely proportional to its molar mass
  3. C.inversely proportional to the square root of its molar mass
  4. D.independent of its molar mass
Show answer
Correct answer: C. inversely proportional to the square root of its molar mass

Thomas Graham found in 1833 that a light gas spreads through a porous partition faster than a heavy one, and that the rates of two gases are in the inverse ratio of the square roots of their densities, and therefore of their molar masses.

Which one of the following pairs is correctly matched?

  1. A.Dry ice - solid nitrogen
  2. B.Dry ice - solid carbon dioxide
  3. C.Dry ice - solid ammonia
  4. D.Dry ice - frozen distilled water
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Dry ice - solid carbon dioxide

At ordinary atmospheric pressure carbon dioxide has no liquid stage: the solid passes straight into vapour at about minus 78.5 degrees Celsius.

Q4547.General ScienceHard

What happens to the viscosity of a liquid and that of a gas when the temperature is raised?

  1. A.Both increase
  2. B.Both decrease
  3. C.That of the liquid decreases and that of the gas increases
  4. D.That of the liquid increases and that of the gas decreases
Show answer
Correct answer: C. That of the liquid decreases and that of the gas increases

In a liquid the resistance to flow comes mainly from the attraction between neighbouring molecules. Heating gives the molecules energy to slip past one another, so the attraction matters less and the liquid thins; hot honey and warm engine oil pour far more easily than cold.

Q4548.General ScienceMedium

Evaporation of a liquid causes cooling because

  1. A.the liquid absorbs latent heat from its surroundings
  2. B.the liquid gives out latent heat to its surroundings
  3. C.the pressure above the liquid falls
  4. D.the liquid expands as it evaporates
Show answer
Correct answer: A. the liquid absorbs latent heat from its surroundings

Evaporation is a surface phenomenon in which the fastest-moving molecules of a liquid break free. Doing so needs the latent heat of vaporisation, and that energy is drawn from the liquid left behind and from whatever the liquid touches, so both grow cooler.

According to Boyle s law for a perfect gas

  1. A.T2/T1 = P2/P1, if V is kept constant
  2. B.T2/T1 = V2/V1, if P is kept constant
  3. C.P1/P2 = V2/V1, if T is kept constant
  4. D.None of these
Show answer
Correct answer: C. P1/P2 = V2/V1, if T is kept constant

Boyle s law applies to a fixed mass of gas at constant temperature and states that pressure is inversely proportional to volume, so the product of the two is a constant: P1 into V1 equals P2 into V2.

How can one state of matter be changed into another?

  1. A.By absorbing radiating heat energy
  2. B.By using electrolytes
  3. C.By increasing pressure
  4. D.By using acids and bases
Show answer
Correct answer: A. By absorbing radiating heat energy

A change of state is governed by the energy of the particles. When a solid absorbs heat its particles vibrate harder until the force holding them in the lattice is overcome and it melts; further heat lets the liquid particles escape as vapour.

Q4557.GeographyMedium

The hot deserts of the world such as the Sahara and the Kalahari are mainly found in which position on a continent?

  1. A.On the eastern margins near the equator
  2. B.On the western margins between 20 and 30 degrees latitude
  3. C.In the interiors beyond 60 degrees latitude
  4. D.Along the polar circles
Show answer
Correct answer: B. On the western margins between 20 and 30 degrees latitude

Hot deserts lie on the western margins of continents roughly between 20 and 30 degrees north and south, under the descending dry air of the subtropical high pressure belt.

Q4558.GeographyHard

Why is the taiga or coniferous forest belt absent in the southern hemisphere?

  1. A.The southern hemisphere is too warm at every latitude
  2. B.Almost no land lies in the 50 to 70 degree latitudes of the south
  3. C.Conifers cannot grow in the southern hemisphere
  4. D.The southern hemisphere has no mountains
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Almost no land lies in the 50 to 70 degree latitudes of the south

The taiga is the belt of coniferous softwood forest between about 50 and 70 degrees latitude, and in the southern hemisphere that belt is almost entirely ocean: only the narrow tail of South America and a few islands reach it, which is far too little land for a continuous forest…

The Llanos and the Campos are examples of which type of natural vegetation?

  1. A.Temperate grasslands
  2. B.Tropical grasslands
  3. C.Coniferous forests
  4. D.Mediterranean scrub
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Tropical grasslands

The Llanos are the grasslands of the Orinoco basin in Venezuela and Colombia and the Campos those of the Brazilian highlands, and both lie in the savanna belt, where a hot wet season alternates with a sharply dry one and the grass grows tall and coarse with scattered thorny trees.
