NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for NDA, in English and Hindi, written as short facts and tables. Read a topic, then solve its quiz and previous-year questions on this site.

NDA GK Questions with Answers

Q4361.General ScienceHard

Which statement about a semiconductor that has been doped is correct?

  1. A.It acquires a net negative charge if doped n-type
  2. B.It acquires a net positive charge if doped p-type
  3. C.It remains electrically neutral in both cases
  4. D.Its conductivity falls below that of the pure crystal
Show answer
Correct answer: C. It remains electrically neutral in both cases

Doping replaces a few host atoms with impurity atoms, and each impurity atom brings its own nucleus along with its electrons, so the total positive and negative charge in the crystal stays balanced.

Q4362.General ScienceMedium

The transistor was invented in 1947 at Bell Laboratories by:

  1. A.Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce
  2. B.J. J. Thomson and Ernest Rutherford
  3. C.Bardeen, Brattain and Shockley
  4. D.Michael Faraday and James Clerk Maxwell
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Bardeen, Brattain and Shockley

John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William Shockley built the first working transistor at Bell Laboratories in 1947 and shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 for the discovery of the transistor effect.

Q4366.General ScienceMedium

Which diode is operated in the reverse breakdown region and is used as a voltage regulator?

  1. A.Light emitting diode
  2. B.Photodiode
  3. C.Zener diode
  4. D.Solar cell
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Zener diode

A Zener diode is heavily doped so that breakdown occurs at a low and sharply defined reverse voltage. Beyond that point the voltage across it stays almost constant even when the current through it changes a great deal, which is precisely the property a voltage regulator needs.

Q4373.Science & TechnologyEasy

The Jantar Mantar observatories at Jaipur, Delhi, Ujjain, Mathura and Varanasi were built by

  1. A.Sawai Jai Singh II
  2. B.Raja Todar Mal
  3. C.Mirza Raja Jai Singh I
  4. D.Maharaja Ranjit Singh
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Sawai Jai Singh II

Their instruments, such as the giant sundial called the Samrat Yantra and the hemispherical Jai Prakash Yantra, measured time, declination and the positions of the planets with shadow and sightline alone, and the Jaipur site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010.

Q4374.Science & TechnologyMedium

Aditya-L1, India's first space-based solar observatory, was placed in

  1. A.a polar orbit around the Earth
  2. B.a halo orbit around the Lagrange point L1 of the Sun-Earth system
  3. C.an orbit around the Moon
  4. D.an orbit around the Sun at the distance of Venus
Show answer
Correct answer: B. a halo orbit around the Lagrange point L1 of the Sun-Earth system

At that point the gravitational pulls of the Sun and the Earth combine with the orbital motion so that a spacecraft keeps station with the Earth, and from there the Sun can be watched continuously without any eclipse or occultation.

Q4376.Science & TechnologyHard

Observations from which Indian observatory contributed to the discovery of the rings of Uranus in 1977?

  1. A.Kavalur in Tamil Nadu
  2. B.Udaipur in Rajasthan
  3. C.Hanle in Ladakh
  4. D.Nainital in Uttarakhand
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Kavalur in Tamil Nadu

In 1977 astronomers watched Uranus pass in front of a distant star from the observatory in the Javadi hills, and the dips in the star's light before and after the planet itself crossed showed that rings surround Uranus.

Q4377.Science & TechnologyMedium

Which of the following is a solar observatory, established in 1899, that holds more than a century of daily images of the Sun?

  1. A.Vainu Bappu Observatory, Kavalur
  2. B.Kodaikanal Solar Observatory
  3. C.Gauribidanur Radio Observatory
  4. D.Devasthal Observatory
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Kodaikanal Solar Observatory

It is now part of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, and its digitised archive of daily photographs of the solar disc, sunspots and the chromosphere is among the longest continuous records of the Sun anywhere, which makes it valuable for the study of long solar cycles.

Q4378.Science & TechnologyEasy

The two metre Himalayan Chandra Telescope of the Indian Astronomical Observatory stands at which site?

  1. A.Hanle in Ladakh
  2. B.Gurushikhar on Mount Abu
  3. C.Kavalur in Tamil Nadu
  4. D.Khodad in Maharashtra
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Hanle in Ladakh

The Indian Astronomical Observatory sits there at about 4,500 metres in a cold desert, one of the highest and driest observing sites in the world, where very little water vapour and almost no artificial light make the sky exceptionally clear and dark.

Q4379.Science & TechnologyMedium

The 3.6 metre Devasthal Optical Telescope, the largest optical telescope in India, is operated by which institute?

  1. A.Indian Institute of Astrophysics
  2. B.Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences
  3. C.Physical Research Laboratory
  4. D.Raman Research Institute
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences

The telescope was built in collaboration with Belgium and activated in 2016 on the Devasthal ridge at about 2,450 metres, and the same site carries a 1.3 metre fast optical telescope and the four metre liquid mirror telescope.

Q4380.Science & TechnologyMedium

The GMRT array consists of how many parabolic dishes, and of what diameter each?

  1. A.Thirty dishes of 45 metres each
  2. B.Fifteen dishes of 30 metres each
  3. C.Forty-five dishes of 30 metres each
  4. D.Twelve dishes of 50 metres each
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Thirty dishes of 45 metres each

Fourteen of them stand close together in a central square of about one kilometre, and the remaining sixteen are spread along three arms in a Y shape stretching some twenty-five kilometres, which gives the array both the sensitivity of a filled aperture and the resolution of a wide one.
