NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. When a white light beam is made to fall on a hollow prism filled with water, it breaks into seven constituent colours. Which of the following colours suffers the maximum angle of deviation?

  1. A.Red
  2. B.Violet
  3. C.Green
  4. D.All suffer by equal amount of deviation

Which organelle other than nucleus in eukaryotic cells has its own DNA, ribosomes and proteins ?

  1. A.Golgi
  2. B.Mitochondria
  3. C.Lysosomes
  4. D.Nucleosomes
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Mitochondria

Mitochondria carry their own circular DNA and their own ribosomes, so they can make some of their own proteins. Mitochondria are the sites of aerobic respiration, where ATP is produced, which is why they are called the powerhouse of the cell.

Q3885.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2024, Paper IEasy

Which one among the following is an example of endothermic process ?

  1. A.Combustion of carbon
  2. B.Mixing acid and alkali
  3. C.Photosynthesis
  4. D.Respiration
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis absorbs energy from sunlight to build glucose, so it is an endothermic process. An endothermic process takes in heat or light from its surroundings, while an exothermic one gives energy out.

Q3886.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2020, Paper IMedium

An electron and a photon have same de Broglie wavelength. It implies that they have the same

  1. A.linear momentum
  2. B.energy
  3. C.speed
  4. D.angular momentum
Show answer
Correct answer: A. linear momentum

The de Broglie wavelength depends only on momentum, so equal wavelengths mean equal momenta. In 1924 Louis de Broglie proposed that every moving particle has a wave linked to it, with wavelength λ = h/p, where h is Planck's constant and p is the linear momentum.

Q3887.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2021, Paper IMedium

When calcium metal reacts with sulphuric acid, the reaction stops after a short while. Why?

  1. A.The reaction of calcium with sulphuric acid is not feasible at room temperature
  2. B.Formed calcium sulphate is insoluble in water and covers the calcium metal, preventing it from reacting any further
  3. C.Formed calcium sulphate requires two molecules of water to crystallize as gypsum
  4. D.Formed calcium sulphate is unstable
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Formed calcium sulphate is insoluble in water and covers the calcium metal, preventing it from reacting any further

The product forms a coating that shuts the acid out. Calcium reacts with dilute sulphuric acid to give calcium sulphate and hydrogen gas: Ca + H2SO4 gives CaSO4 + H2.

Q3888.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2024, Paper IEasy

Which one among the following statements with respect to the atomic number of an atom is correct ?

  1. A.The number of neutrons is same as atomic number
  2. B.The sum of electrons and neutrons is same as atomic number
  3. C.The number of protons is same as atomic number
  4. D.The sum of protons and neutrons is same as atomic number
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The number of protons is same as atomic number

The atomic number (Z) is defined as the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom. Every atom of an element has the same number of protons, so the atomic number identifies the element: hydrogen has 1, carbon 6 and oxygen 8.

Which one of the following is not a property of the X-rays?

  1. A.They are deflected by electric fields.
  2. B.They are not deflected by magnetic fields.
  3. C.They have high penetration length in matter.
  4. D.Their wavelength is much smaller than that of visible light.
Show answer
Correct answer: A. They are deflected by electric fields.

X-rays are electromagnetic waves with no electric charge, so electric fields cannot deflect them. X-rays were discovered by Wilhelm Röntgen in 1895, who won the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 for it.

Q3893.Environment & EcologyAsked in: CDS · CDS-II 2021, GKEasy

Which of the following limits the number of trophic levels in a food chain ?

  1. A.Deficient food supply
  2. B.Polluted air
  3. C.Decrease in the available energy at higher trophic levels
  4. D.Parasitic organisms
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Decrease in the available energy at higher trophic levels

Energy shrinks sharply at each step of a food chain, so after a few levels too little is left to support another level of consumers.

Q3894.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-I 2022, GKMedium

Which one of the following is not an example of an oxidation reaction ?

  1. A.The taste of butter changes if left for a longer period
  2. B.A white substance is formed when an aqueous solution of barium chloride is mixed with sodium sulphate solution
  3. C.A reddish-brown powder gets coated on articles made of iron
  4. D.Wine gets sour with time
Show answer
Correct answer: B. A white substance is formed when an aqueous solution of barium chloride is mixed with sodium sulphate solution

This is a double displacement (precipitation) reaction, in which no element gains oxygen or loses electrons. When the two solutions are mixed, the ions swap partners: BaCl2 + Na2SO4 → BaSO4 + 2NaCl.
