Which one of the following statements about blood elements is correct?

  1. A.Red blood cells' number is same as that of white blood cells and platelets.
  2. B.The number of white blood cells is more than red blood cells.
  3. C.The number of red blood cells is the highest.
  4. D.The number of red blood cells is lower than platelets.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The number of red blood cells is the highest.

Red blood cells far outnumber both platelets and white blood cells. A microlitre of healthy adult blood holds about 4.5 to 5.5 million red blood cells, about 1.5 to 4.5 lakh platelets and only about 4,000 to 11,000 white blood cells.

The Soda-acid fire extinguisher contains

  1. A.sulphuric acid and solution of sodium hydrogencarbonate
  2. B.nitric acid and solution of sodium hydrogencarbonate
  3. C.sulphuric acid and solution of sodium carbonate
  4. D.sulphuric acid and solution of potassium carbonate
Show answer
Correct answer: A. sulphuric acid and solution of sodium hydrogencarbonate

When the two mix, they release a rush of carbon dioxide that pushes water out onto the fire. In a soda-acid extinguisher a small bottle of dilute sulphuric acid sits inside a cylinder filled with a solution of sodium hydrogencarbonate (baking soda, NaHCO3).

Which one of the following statements on photoelectric effect is NOT correct ?

  1. A.Albert Einstein received the Nobel Prize in Physics for explaining photoelectric effect
  2. B.For each metal, there is a threshold frequency ν₀ below which this effect is not observed
  3. C.At a frequency ν > ν₀, the kinetic energy of ejected electrons does not change on increasing the frequency of incident light
  4. D.The number of electrons ejected is proportional to the intensity of incident light
Show answer
Correct answer: C. At a frequency ν > ν₀, the kinetic energy of ejected electrons does not change on increasing the frequency of incident light

Above the threshold, the kinetic energy of the ejected electrons rises as the frequency of the light rises, so the statement that it does not change is wrong.

Let an electric current of 1.5 A flow through an incandescent lamp in a circuit. What is the amount of charge that flows through it in 10 ms?

  1. A.0.015 C
  2. B.0.15 C
  3. C.1.5 C
  4. D.15 C
Show answer
Correct answer: A. 0.015 C

Charge equals current multiplied by time, so Q = 1.5 A × 0.010 s = 0.015 C. Electric current is the rate at which charge flows, I = Q/t, so the charge that passes in a given time is Q = I × t. One ampere means one coulomb of…

In some viral infections, number of platelets are reduced quickly. Platelets are essential because :

  1. A.they along with red blood cells carry oxygen.
  2. B.platelets are important to carry food to cells through blood.
  3. C.platelets remove carbon dioxide from blood.
  4. D.platelets have a role in blood clotting.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. platelets have a role in blood clotting.

Platelets plug a damaged vessel and start the chain that forms a clot. Platelets, or thrombocytes, are small cell fragments made from large cells called megakaryocytes in the bone marrow.
