Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Carborundum is used as an abrasive, because it

  1. A.has high thermal conductivity
  2. B.has low coefficient of expansion
  3. C.has high chemical stability
  4. D.is extremely hard
Show answer
Correct answer: D. is extremely hard

Q2225.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2025, Paper IMedium

Consider the following statements : 1. Potassium carbonate is a salt of a weak acid and a weak base. 2. Ammonium nitrate is a salt of a strong acid and a weak base. 3. Ammonium acetate is a salt of a weak acid and a weak base. Which of the statements given above are correct?

  1. A.1 and 3 only
  2. B.2 and 3 only
  3. C.1 and 2 only
  4. D.1, 2 and 3
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 2 and 3 only

  4. D.It deflects the wind to the right direction in the northern hemisphere.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. It deflects the wind to the right direction in the southern hemisphere.

In the southern hemisphere the Coriolis force turns winds to the left, not the right. The Coriolis force is an apparent force caused by the Earth's rotation.

Q2229.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-I 2023, GKEasy

The hydrogen bomb and the uranium bomb are based, respectively on

  1. A.nuclear fusion and fission
  2. B.fission and thermonuclear fusion
  3. C.geothermal fission and fusion
  4. D.geothermal fusion and fission
Show answer
Correct answer: A. nuclear fusion and fission

A hydrogen bomb fuses light hydrogen nuclei, while a uranium bomb splits heavy uranium-235 nuclei. In nuclear fission a heavy nucleus such as uranium-235 absorbs a neutron and splits into two lighter nuclei, releasing energy and two or three more neutrons.
