NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for NDA, in English and Hindi, written as short facts and tables. Read a topic, then solve its quiz and previous-year questions on this site.

Q2142.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2018, GATMedium

A planet has a mass M₁ and radius R₁. The value of acceleration due to gravity on its surface is g₁. There is another planet 2, whose mass and radius both are two times that of the first planet. Which one of the following is the acceleration due to gravity on the surface of planet 2?

  1. A.g₁
  2. B.2g₁
  3. C.g₁/2
  4. D.g₁/4
Show answer
Correct answer: C. g₁/2

Surface gravity is g = GM/R², so doubling the mass doubles g while doubling the radius divides it by four, leaving g₁ × 2/4 = g₁/2.

Which one of the following rivers was earlier known as "Vitasta" ?

  1. A.Tista
  2. B.Jhelum
  3. C.Tungabhadra
  4. D.Bharatpuzha A - EDF-F-KJU
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Jhelum

The Jhelum was called the Vitasta in the Rig Veda and in later Sanskrit texts. The rivers of the Punjab region carried Vedic names: Vitasta for the Jhelum, Asikni for the Chenab, Parushni for the Ravi, Vipasha for the Beas and Shutudri for the Satluj.

Which one of the following conclusions could not be derived from Rutherford's α-particle scattering experiment?

  1. A.Most of the space in the atom is empty.
  2. B.The radius of the atom is about 10⁵ times the radius of the nucleus.
  3. C.Electrons move in a circular path of fixed energy called orbits.
  4. D.Nearly all the mass of the atom resides in the nucleus.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Electrons move in a circular path of fixed energy called orbits.

. Orbits of fixed energy were proposed by Niels Bohr in 1913; Rutherford's experiment said nothing about the energy of electrons.

Which of the following statements is/are correct in respect of Portland cement ? I. Adding more water (higher water-cement ratio) accelerates the initial setting time of cement. II. The addition of a small percentage of gypsum gives the desired retardation. III. Gypsum is added during manufacturing to accelerate the setting time of cement. Select the answer using the code given below :

  1. A.I and II
  2. B.I and III
  3. C.I only
  4. D.II only
Show answer
Correct answer: D. II only

Only statement II is correct: a small amount of gypsum is added to cement to slow down its setting. Portland cement is made by heating limestone and clay to form clinker, which is then ground with about 2 to 3 per cent gypsum (calcium sulphate dihydrate).

Q2153.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2018, GATMedium

Which one of the following properties is NOT true for graphite ?

  1. A.Hybridisation of each carbon atom is sp³
  2. B.Hybridisation of each carbon atom is sp²
  3. C.Electrons are delocalized over the whole sheet of atoms
  4. D.Each layer is composed of hexagonal rings
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Hybridisation of each carbon atom is sp³

In graphite each carbon atom is sp² hybridised, not sp³, so statement A is the one that is not true.

Q2158.Indian HistoryAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2021, GATHard

Which of the following statements about the Law Commission headed by Lord Macaulay is/are correct? 1. It attempted to codify the laws. 2. It was opposed to uniform system of Courts. Select the correct answer using the code given below :

Which one of the following reactions is an example of decomposition reaction?

  1. A.CH₄(g) + 2O₂(g) → CO₂(g) + 2H₂O(g)
  2. B.2AgCl(s) → (sunlight) 2Ag(s) + Cl₂(g)
  3. C.CuO + H₂ → (heat) Cu + H₂O
  4. D.Fe(s) + CuSO₄(aq) → FeSO₄(aq) + Cu(s)
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 2AgCl(s) → (sunlight) 2Ag(s) + Cl₂(g)

A single compound, silver chloride, breaks down into two simpler substances, silver and chlorine, which is exactly what a decomposition reaction is.
