Defence GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the General Knowledge marks in the defence exams, and science carries the largest share of it. In NDA & NA, Physics, Chemistry and General Science are about half of the 400 marks of Part B, and History, the freedom movement and Geography are about 20% each, as per the notice. In the CDS (II) 2026 General Knowledge paper, GK24 counted about 37 science questions, about 20 each on Polity and History, about 15 on Geography and environment and about 10 on the Economy; this count is guidance, not an official break-up. The Army's Agniveer CEE gives 15 of its 50 General Duty questions to General Knowledge and 15 to General Science, which covers cells, the human body, plants and animals and common epidemics. Its GK list names history, culture and geography of India and its neighbours, the Constitution, inventions and discoveries, books and authors, and the Indian Armed Forces. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes and GK questions tagged for NDA, CDS and Agniveer, in English and Hindi: General Science, Indian History, Art and Culture, Indian Polity, Geography, Indian Economy and Static GK. Read one topic at a sitting, then solve its questions and the previous-year questions of your exam to see what stayed with you.

The oxidation number of Mn in KMnO4 is

  1. A.+2
  2. B.-2
  3. C.+7
  4. D.-7
Show answer
Correct answer: C. +7

Potassium permanganate is a neutral compound, so the oxidation numbers of all its atoms must add up to zero. Potassium, an alkali metal, is always +1, and each of the four oxygen atoms is -2, giving the oxygens a total of -8.

Coulomb friction is the friction between

  1. A.Two dry surfaces
  2. B.Two lubricated surfaces
  3. C.Bodies having relative motion
  4. D.Solids and liquids
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Two dry surfaces

Coulomb friction, also called dry friction, is the resistance that acts when two solid surfaces touch each other with no lubricant between them.

Which of the following is NOT one of the four thematic areas of the National Quantum Mission?

  1. A.Quantum computing
  2. B.Quantum communication
  3. C.Quantum sensing and metrology
  4. D.Quantum agriculture
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Quantum agriculture

The four thematic areas, each with its own hub, are quantum computing at the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, quantum communication at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, quantum sensing and metrology at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and quantum materials and devices at the Indian Institute of Technology…

Q6674.Science & TechnologyMedium

Quantum key distribution is considered secure mainly because of which principle?

  1. A.Keys are encrypted twice before transmission
  2. B.An unknown quantum state cannot be copied and measuring it disturbs it
  3. C.Photons travel faster than electrical signals
  4. D.Quantum channels use frequencies that cannot be received
Show answer
Correct answer: B. An unknown quantum state cannot be copied and measuring it disturbs it

The no cloning theorem forbids an exact copy of an unknown state, and any measurement changes the state, so an eavesdropper on the channel inevitably leaves statistical traces that the two legitimate parties detect when they compare a sample of their key.

Q6675.Science & TechnologyMedium

Shor’s algorithm is significant for quantum computing because it can efficiently perform which task?

  1. A.Searching an unsorted database
  2. B.Factoring large integers
  3. C.Sorting a list of numbers
  4. D.Compressing image data
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Factoring large integers

Peter Shor published the algorithm in 1994, and it would let a sufficiently large quantum computer break the large number factorisation on which public key encryption such as the RSA system depends.

Q6677.Science & TechnologyHard

Under the National Quantum Mission, the thematic hub for quantum computing has been set up at which institution?

  1. A.Indian Institute of Technology, Madras
  2. B.Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru
  3. C.Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
  4. D.Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

The mission divides the field among four thematic hubs, and quantum computing was assigned to the Indian Institute of Science.

Q6678.Science & TechnologyMedium

The National Quantum Mission aims to build intermediate scale quantum computers of how many physical qubits in eight years?

  2. B.50 to 1,000 physical qubits
  3. C.1,000 to 5,000 physical qubits
  4. D.10,000 to 50,000 physical qubits
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 50 to 1,000 physical qubits

This is the headline target stated when the Cabinet approved the mission, and it is to be achieved on more than one hardware platform, including superconducting and photonic technology, rather than on a single design.
