Why in News

On 15 October 2026 the Press Information Bureau reported that DARPG Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma had chaired the third review meeting of Special Campaign 6 with nodal officers of 84 ministries and departments, two weeks into the campaign's implementation phase.

The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) is the nodal department for Special Campaign 6, the government's drive for Swachhata and for clearing pending matters. Its Secretary, Smt. Nivedita Shukla Verma, took the chair at the third review meeting with the campaign's nodal officers, and the Press Information Bureau reported the proceedings on 15 October 2026.

The two phases

The preparatory phase of the campaign was completed on 30 September 2026. The implementation phase began on 2 October 2026 and will run until 31 October 2026. The review covered the first fortnight of that implementation phase.

How many took part

More than 600 officers joined the meeting online from over 240 locations, representing 84 ministries and departments along with their public sector undertakings and field offices. Shri Puneet Yadav, Additional Secretary in the department, laid out the progress made so far and the new ideas that ministries have taken up.

The dedicated one-day drive

A feature new to this year's campaign is the dedicated one-day drive, under which a ministry or department takes up cleanliness and disposal work on a single day in all its attached and subordinate offices and field establishments at once. Officials said the wider reach of the campaign shows the effect of that single-day push, with field offices joining in actively.

Citizen-facing ideas

The Department of Posts has launched DigiPost, a phygital mail service under which traffic e-challans issued by the Gujarat Police travel digitally and are then delivered in physical form to citizens. The Department of Defence has set up an e-Chhawani Helpdesk for grievance redressal, and the Ministry of Railways has held Rail Jan Yuva Samvaad to draw youth, students and passengers into a conversation on railway matters.

E-waste and waste to wealth

The Ministry of Coal put up an e-waste kiosk at the headquarters of Mahanadi Coalfields, while the Ministry of Mines set up a collection stall to push the reduce, reuse and recycle approach. Obsolete electronic waste was segregated at IIIT Allahabad under the Ministry of Education. Discarded material has also become art: the Ministry of Culture made a peacock sculpture out of thrown-away plastic spoons and paper along with Re-Bot, a robot built from old computer parts, the Ministry of Railways developed a Waste to Art Park at the Rail Museum, and the MSME ministry turned e-waste into a working charkha. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research weeded out obsolete records, and the Assam Rifles promoted waste segregation through community participation.
