Why in News

On 15 October 2026 Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed by video conference the second phase of the Divyang Seva Camp in Chhattisgarh under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, where assistive devices are being given to persons with disabilities including victims of Naxal violence.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah spoke by video conference on 15 October 2026 at a ceremony where assistive devices were handed to persons with disabilities in Chhattisgarh, among them people maimed by Naxal violence. The event falls under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a countrywide set of service programmes marking 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in public office, first as a Chief Minister and then as Prime Minister.

The camp and its reach

The Home Minister said the second phase of the Divyang Seva Camp was being launched that day. An earlier round held at Jagdalpur from 5 to 7 October 2026 served more than 3,600 persons with disabilities, and more than 1,570 of the beneficiaries came from Bastar alone, a count he said measures the hurt the district has taken. Wheelchairs, tricycles, crutches, hearing aids, smart walking sticks and artificial limbs are among the devices being given.

Who is working on it

The Chhattisgarh government, the district administration, the State Social Welfare Department, the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti of Jaipur and the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana are taking part. Mr Shah said the use of improvised explosive devices to cripple innocent civilians for political ends was the gravest abuse of human rights, and that the Centre stands with the State in rehabilitating every victim.

After Naxalism

He said the government had been committed to wiping out Naxalism from the country before 31 March 2026 and that it has now been ended, but that the end of the violence does not by itself erase five decades of suffering. On surrender and rehabilitation he gave a long list of figures: about 8,526 Naxalites have surrendered, bank accounts were opened for 7,328 who had none, 1,620 received reward money, 7,882 got incentives, 455 were given jobs and 129 were allotted land.
