Meghwal Leads Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Drive at IIAC in Delhi

Why in News

On 2 October 2026 the Ministry of Law and Justice reported a tree plantation drive led by Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal at the India International Arbitration Centre, held under the theme Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam as part of Special Campaign 6 and Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.

The Department of Legal Affairs under the Ministry of Law and Justice held a tree plantation drive at the India International Arbitration Centre in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, on 1 October 2026, the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. The drive was organised under the theme Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and formed part of two larger programmes, Special Campaign 6 and Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.

Who was present

Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State with Independent Charge for Law and Justice, led the plantation. He was joined by Dr Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Legislative Department and of the Department of Legal Affairs, who is also Chairperson of the arbitration centre, and by senior officers of the department and of the centre. All of them planted saplings on the centre's campus. Navin Kumar Singh, the Chief Executive Officer of the centre, thanked the minister, the secretary and the other guests for taking part.

What the minister said

The minister's theme was that cleanliness is not only about streets and public places. It has to begin, he argued, with a clean mind, pure thought and a sense of duty towards society, a point he summed up in the phrase mann ki swachhta. He described Swachhata Hi Seva as a people's movement in which every individual has a part, and said that Gandhi's birth anniversary on 2 October reminds the country that cleanliness, discipline and service were central to Bapu's idea of a free and self-reliant India.

The Champaran reference

Recalling Mahatma Gandhi's stay in Champaran in 1917, the minister pointed out how Gandhi began work on sanitation and hygiene there, how that effort grew into a wider mass movement, and how it helped address the grievances of indigo farmers. The lesson from Champaran, he said, is that cleanliness is a mission of empathy and shared responsibility and not merely a campaign.

Arbitration centre in view

The minister said he expected the centre to grow, through the combined effort of all those involved, into a global, efficient and credible seat for arbitration, reflecting the same transparency, discipline and service that the cleanliness movement stands for. Dr Rajiv Mani said cleanliness has two sides, that of our surroundings and that of the mind, and that neither is complete without the other. He added that institutions owe a duty to adopt sustainable practices and to contribute to the aims of the Swachh Bharat Mission, and that the centre is committed to making India a preferred seat for international arbitration. The programme closed with a pledge to keep up cleanliness work and promote a greener environment.

Show answer

Correct answer: A. Arjun Ram Meghwal

Explanation

The correct answer is Arjun Ram Meghwal. He is the Union Minister of State with Independent Charge for Law and Justice, and in that capacity he led the tree plantation drive on the campus of the India International Arbitration Centre at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi. Option B, Rajiv Mani, is the Secretary of the Legislative Department and of the Department of Legal Affairs and serves as Chairperson of the arbitration centre, so he is a senior official rather than the minister. Option C, Navin Kumar Singh, is the Chief Executive Officer of the centre and thanked the dignitaries at the close of the programme. Option D names someone who did not figure in this event at all. Addressing the gathering, the minister said cleanliness cannot stop at streets and public spaces and must begin with a clean mind, pure thought and a sense of duty towards society.

Q2.EnvironmentEasy

Under which theme was the tree plantation drive at the India International Arbitration Centre organised?

  1. A.Mera Ped Mera Desh
  2. B.Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam
  3. C.Harit Bharat Abhiyan
  4. D.Van Mahotsav Sankalp
Show answer

Correct answer: B. Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam

Explanation

The correct answer is Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. The Department of Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Law and Justice organised the drive under that theme on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, and it formed part of Special Campaign 6 as well as Swachhata Hi Seva 2026. Options A, C and D are plausible-sounding names for plantation or greening drives, but none of them is the theme named for this event. The minister, the law secretary who chairs the centre, and senior officers of the department and the centre planted saplings on the campus together. The programme ended with a pledge to carry on cleanliness work and to promote a greener and more sustainable environment, and the centre's leadership tied that pledge to the wider aims of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

  1. A.1915
  2. B.1916
  3. C.1917
  4. D.1919
Show answer

Correct answer: C. 1917

Explanation

The correct answer is 1917. Speaking at the plantation drive, the minister recalled Gandhi's stay in Champaran in that year and highlighted how Gandhi began efforts towards sanitation and hygiene there, how those efforts became part of a wider mass movement, and how they contributed to addressing the grievances of indigo farmers. Options A and B fall before the Champaran episode the minister described and do not match the year he named. Option D comes after it and belongs to a later phase of the national movement. The minister drew a lesson from Champaran for the present day, saying that cleanliness is a mission of empathy and shared responsibility rather than merely a campaign, and he linked that idea to Swachhata Hi Seva being a people's movement in which every individual has a role.
