Kishor Makwana Conferred Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Jan Seva Award 2026

Kishor Makwana, Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, has been conferred the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Jan Seva Award 2026. The award recognises his service to the Commission and his contribution to the cause of social justice.

Where the award was given

The award was presented during the sixteenth edition of the Sansad Ratna Awards 2026. The ceremony was held at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in the national capital. Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy was the Chief Guest. Dr Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and for the Development of the North Eastern Region, attended as the Special Guest. The ceremony was presided over by Hansraj Ahir, former Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes. Former Chief Justice B. R. Gavai was also present.

Who nominated him

The jury of the Sansad Ratna Awards Committee recognised the service of the Commission to the nation and to the cause of social justice. The citation acknowledged the efforts of the Chairman himself and pointed to the work done by the Commission under his leadership.

About the Commission

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is the body charged with protecting the constitutional rights and the interests of the Scheduled Castes. The release says that under the present Chairman the Commission has strengthened its role as an effective institution of that kind, and has worked to secure justice, rights, dignity and social empowerment for members of Scheduled Caste communities.
