Why in News
The Ministry of Steel announced on 7 November 2026 that it had successfully concluded the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM) 6, held from 2 to 31 October 2026 along with its Central Public Sector Enterprises.
The Ministry of Steel has wound up the sixth edition of the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM), run from 2 to 31 October 2026. The ministry and the Central Public Sector Enterprises under it took part together, with the campaign aimed at tidying up governance by clearing matters left pending and at making cleanliness and efficiency part of everyday official work.
What the campaign set out to do
SCDPM 6 sought to make Swachhta a settled habit inside the ministry rather than a one-off drive, and to work through pending matters of several kinds at once. The categories taken up included references received from Members of Parliament, from the Prime Minister's Office, from VIPs and from the Cabinet, references from State Governments, and grievances lodged on the CPGRAMS portal, among others.
The numbers it reported
| Public grievances and appeals | Redressal targets met in full |
| Physical files reviewed | 21,164, which is 101 per cent of the target set |
| Physical files weeded out | 17,107 |
| Cleanliness drives held | 301, against a target of 301 |
| Office space freed | About 17,501 square feet |
The space was recovered by clearing out scrap, electronic waste and files no longer needed. Because the file review crossed the number planned, the ministry recorded it at 101 per cent of target, while the cleanliness drives finished exactly on the figure set for them. On grievances and appeals the ministry reported complete achievement of the redressal targets it had been given for the campaign period.
Role of the public sector enterprises
Several Central Public Sector Enterprises working under the Ministry of Steel brought in fresh practices of their own in two areas, the keeping of records and the settlement of grievances. The ministry described these as benchmarks that other departments could follow. It said it stays firm on improving administrative efficiency, encouraging cleanliness and settling pending matters on time, in line with the wider aims the Government of India has set for administrative reform, transparency and good governance.
Why such campaigns are held
A Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters is a time-bound exercise across ministries and their enterprises. Offices review and weed out old paper records, dispose of scrap and e-waste, free up room, and bring down the pile of pending references and public grievances within the campaign window. Reporting against a target, as the Ministry of Steel did for files and drives, lets the outcome be measured rather than merely described, which is why the percentage figures matter for aspirants.
