What the minister told the officers

Mr Yadav asked the officers to step past the role of a regulator and work instead as leaders, innovators and enablers of development that lasts. He acknowledged what the service has done to guard the country's forests, wildlife and ecological inheritance, and counted among the gains a wider forest and tree cover, carbon locked away, the care of woodlands and wetlands, and the restoration of landscapes through drives that bring ordinary citizens in, such as Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, MISHTI, the Aravalli Green Wall and Nagar Van Yojana. He said the goal of Viksit Bharat@2047 has to hold economic growth and ecological safety together, and listed conflict between people and wild animals, forest fires, a changing climate and the balance between building and conserving as the hard problems ahead, each needing science and the involvement of local communities.

Technology and the field

The minister pressed the case for newer tools, naming geographic information systems, remote sensing and artificial intelligence, to be used alongside steady training and work with communities that draws on their inherited knowledge. He described living resources as the most vital on the planet, which is why the officers are being given a view of policy making at the level of the ministry as well as experience of carrying it out in the field. He urged them to look for practical answers of their own, strengthen the institutions they serve, and prepare forest management plans with fresh thinking.

How the course is built

A Line Ministry Module will take the officers to central ministries and organisations so that they see how sectors connect. The visits to Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will look at wildlife management, biodiversity, ecotourism and forest management run with communities. A Management Module covers leadership, decision making, human resources, finance, the governance of forest commons, negotiation, change management and ethics, while a Forestry Module takes up environmental conventions, artificial intelligence in forestry, digital change, biodiversity governance, climate finance, forest rights issues, watershed management, recent amendments to the forest conservation law and human-wildlife conflict.

Practice Questions

Q1.EnvironmentMedium

The Mid-Career Training Phase-III programme for Indian Forest Service officers that began on 12 October 2026 is organised by which institution?

  1. A.Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration
  2. B.Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy
  3. C.Forest Research Institute
  4. D.Wildlife Institute of India
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy

Explanation

The correct answer is the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, abbreviated as IGNFA, which is conducting the nineteenth Phase-III course from the twelfth of October to the sixth of November in 2026 for sixty-eight officers drawn from eighteen cadres. Option A names the academy that trains civil servants of the administrative service and is not the body running this forestry course. Option C, the Forest Research Institute, is a research body and not the training academy named for this programme. Option D, the Wildlife Institute of India, works on wildlife research and training of a different kind, and while wildlife management is one of the themes of the visits planned under this course, the organiser is still the academy. Rajendra Prasad Khajuria is its Director and was present when the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change interacted with the participants in New Delhi.

Q2.EnvironmentMedium

How many officers are attending the Mid-Career Training Phase-III programme, and from how many cadres do they come?

  1. A.48 officers from 12 cadres
  2. B.68 officers from 18 cadres
  3. C.86 officers from 21 cadres
  4. D.108 officers from 24 cadres
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 68 officers from 18 cadres

Explanation

The correct answer is 68 officers from 18 cadres. The course has that many participants, and the officers have come from eighteen different State cadres, which is why the ministry described the group as carrying a mix of field and policy experience ranging from wildlife conservation governance to climate-resilient forestry, habitat restoration and the working of environmental policy. Option A reduces both figures and matches nothing reported. Option C reverses the digits of the participant count and raises the cadre figure, a trap for a candidate who recalls the shape of the number but not its order. Option D is higher on both counts. It is also worth remembering the service bracket, since the course is designed for officers who have completed between seven and nine years of service, and the schedule, which runs from the twelfth of October to the sixth of November in 2026.

Q3.EnvironmentMedium

Which of the following was named by the Union Environment Minister as a citizen-engaging conservation initiative at the IFS training programme?

  1. A.Namami Gange Mission
  2. B.Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam
  3. C.Atal Bhujal Yojana
  4. D.Jal Jeevan Mission
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam

Explanation

The correct answer is Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. Speaking to the officers, the minister pointed to initiatives that draw citizens into conservation work, and named this tree-planting drive alongside MISHTI, the Aravalli Green Wall and Nagar Van Yojana while listing India's gains in forest and tree cover, carbon sequestration, woodland and wetland conservation and the restoration of landscapes. Option A refers to a river rejuvenation programme and was not among the initiatives listed on this occasion. Option C is a groundwater programme and option D is a drinking water programme, and although both involve community participation, neither was named here. Keeping the four forestry initiatives together is the safest way to answer such a question, and they should be tied to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, which the minister said must bring economic development and ecological security into one frame.
