Why in News

On 5 November 2026 the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that it had achieved 100 per cent of the targets set under Special Campaign 6, which ran from 2 to 31 October 2026 with cleanliness drives at 1,62,325 sites.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reported that every target set for the Department of Health and Family Welfare under Special Campaign 6 was met in full. The drive ran from 2 to 31 October 2026 and was built around three aims: making cleanliness a habit of the office, cutting down pending work and tightening administrative efficiency.

Where it was carried out

The campaign reached the Department's headquarters, Central Government hospitals, attached and subordinate offices, autonomous bodies and central public sector undertakings across the country. Cleanliness drives alone were held at 1,62,325 sites. Union Minister J. P. Nadda went to AIIMS, New Delhi, to look over cleanliness, waste management and patient amenities, while Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav visited the health check-up camp at Kartavya Bhawan-1 in New Delhi and met Safai Mitras there. A dedicated one-day set of Kayakalp activities on sanitation and hygiene was held on 27 October 2026.

Money and rules

Selling off scrap and disposing of electronic waste brought in revenue of more than Rs 1 crore, while keeping obsolete material out of ordinary rubbish. On the side of procedure, 19 rules and processes were simplified, which the Ministry expects to shorten the route a file takes through the system. The clearing of 12,840 grievances together with 6,026 related appeals is the part of the record that touches citizens most directly.

How progress was tracked

Work was reviewed regularly under the Union Health Minister and the Union Health Secretary so that targets were reached on time. Figures were uploaded as the campaign went along to the Special Campaign portal of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), where best practices and departmental updates were also recorded. Among the activities documented were a waste-to-art effort at AIIMS, Jodhpur, which turned discarded plastic drums and bottles into planters and wall hangings carrying no-tobacco and no-smoking messages, and a similar activity at Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi.

Why it is worth noting

Special Campaign 6 is the latest in the series of government-wide drives coordinated through DARPG, and ministries report their results separately. Here the Department not only met its targets but went past them on several parameters, which the Ministry presented as evidence of citizen-centric and accountable working.
