Why in News
On 22 October 2026 Indian para shuttlers won six bronze medals at the Asian Para Games 2026, in Women's Singles SU5 and SL3, Men's Singles SL4 twice, Mixed Doubles SH6 and Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5, and the Prime Minister congratulated each of the players.
Para badminton gave India its largest single-day haul at the Asian Para Games 2026 on 22 October 2026, with six bronze medals across the singles and mixed doubles classifications. Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a separate message of congratulations to each of the players.
The women's singles bronzes
Manisha Ramadass won bronze in the Women's Singles SU5 event. It was her bronze for a second consecutive edition of the Games, which the Prime Minister pointed to as proof of her consistency and commitment to the sport. Sanjana Kumari added a bronze in the Women's Singles SL3 event, an achievement the Prime Minister said he was proud of.
Two bronzes in men's singles SL4
The Men's Singles SL4 class produced two Indian medals. Abhijeet Sakhuja reached the podium in his first appearance at the Games, a result described as a commendable reflection of his talent, dedication and hard work. Suhas L. Yathiraj, already an established name, took the other bronze in the same class, and his consistency, perseverance and passion for the sport were praised.
The mixed doubles pairs
In Mixed Doubles SH6, Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan and Krishna Nagar won bronze, which the Prime Minister called another proud moment for Indian para badminton. In Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5, Pramod Bhagat and Manisha Ramadass won bronze, their teamwork and competitive spirit having been evident through the tournament. The second medal of the day made Manisha Ramadass the only Indian para shuttler with two medals on 22 October.
How to revise this for an exam
Questions on a multi-medal day are usually set on the pairing of an athlete with a classification, so the safest method is to learn the six entries as a list. Manisha Ramadass goes with SU5 singles and with the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles, Sanjana Kumari with SL3 singles, Abhijeet Sakhuja and Suhas L. Yathiraj with SL4 singles, and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan with Krishna Nagar in SH6. Every one of the six medals was a bronze, so the colour is the easy part and the classification is where mistakes are made.
