Why in News

On 29 October 2026 the Defence Research and Development Organisation reported its progress under Special Campaign 6.0, including 100 per cent clearance of pending public grievances, the weeding out of about 20,000 files and Rs 35 lakh earned from scrap disposal.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has taken up the sixth edition of the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters, known as SCDPM 6.0, across its headquarters, its laboratories and its other establishments. The drive is coordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, and the news of DRDO's progress came on 29 October 2026.

What the campaign sets out to do

The campaign asks every participating office to cut down the matters left pending, settle public grievances faster, move paper records into digital form, raise standards of cleanliness and make better use of the space it occupies. For a research body spread over laboratories and testing facilities in many states, that covers both the files on a desk and the sheds and stores around a campus.

What DRDO reports

The organisation says it has met all of its targets, a full 100 per cent, on three counts: pending public grievances, Parliamentary Assurances and references passed between ministries. On the record-keeping side, about 20,000 files marked for weeding out are being disposed of in keeping with the schedules that decide how long a record must be kept. The paper left after shredding goes to the Khadi and Village Industries Commission to be recycled rather than to a dump. Alongside this, roughly 5 lakh pages of historical records have been digitised, which makes the material easier to retrieve and the administration easier to inspect.

Cleaning the campuses

Cleanliness and space-optimisation drives are running across DRDO campuses, the residential colonies attached to them and the ranges where research testing is done. Obsolete equipment, furniture no longer needed and scrap material are being cleared out. That disposal has been done in an environment-friendly way and has brought in revenue of Rs 35 lakh, so the exercise has returned money to the exchequer as well as freeing floor space for current work.
