Centre Releases Rs 1,09,019 Crore Tax Devolution to States
The Union Government released an extra tax devolution instalment of Rs 1,09,019 crore to 28 state governments on 31 October 2026 before the festive season.

Why in News
On 31 October 2026 the Ministry of Finance released Rs 1,09,019 crore to the state governments as an additional instalment of tax devolution, the second such advance release of the financial year.
The Union Finance Ministry has handed the states an extra slice of central taxes, releasing Rs 1,09,019 crore on 31 October 2026 on top of the instalment the states draw every month. It is the second such advance top-up the Centre has given in the running financial year.
Why the money came early
Two reasons were given. The festive weeks lift state spending, and the Centre wanted the states to hold cash for it. The other reason is capital spending: the states are expected to use the sum to quicken work on projects and to pay for their development and welfare commitments.
How devolution reaches a state
A state does not live on the taxes it levies alone. A settled share of what the Centre collects is passed down to the states, and that transfer normally arrives once a month. An instalment like this one sits outside the routine, released when the Centre decides to front-load the transfer. The money carries no conditions on how it is spent, which is why an early instalment is worth more to a state treasury than a tied grant of the same size.
How the amount is split
All 28 states share in the release. Uttar Pradesh draws the biggest amount, with Bihar second and Madhya Pradesh third. West Bengal follows with Rs 7,866 crore, and Maharashtra and Rajasthan come after it. At the far end of the statement, Sikkim and Goa take the smallest sums.
What an aspirant should carry away
The facts worth fixing are the figure, the date, the point that this was the second additional instalment of the year, and that it was laid on top of the regular monthly transfer rather than taking its place. Questions on this subject usually pair the amount with the date, or ask which state stood first in the state-wise statement.
