Why in News
On 8 October 2026 the Indian Air Force marked its 94th anniversary at Air Force Station Hindan, Ghaziabad. Air Chief Marshal AP Singh reviewed the parade, five unit citations were presented and the theme was 'Indian Air Force: Infallible, Impervious and Precise'.
The Indian Air Force completed 94 years of service on 8 October 2026 and marked the day at Air Force Station Hindan in Ghaziabad. The ceremonial parade was reviewed by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh. Seated with him were the Chief of the Army Staff, the Chief of the Naval Staff, several former air chiefs and other senior officers.
How the parade unfolded
The morning opened with the marching-in of the President's Colours, the honour the force carries for its record of service. Three Mi-17 1V helicopters then flew over the dais in the 'Dhwaj' formation, trooping the National Flag and the Air Force flag to give the air chief an aerial salute. Group Captain Manish Sharma commanded the parade. An investiture ceremony followed, at which air warriors received medals for gallantry and for distinguished service, and units were handed citations for excellence.
The theme for the year
The theme chosen was 'Indian Air Force: Infallible, Impervious and Precise'. In his address the air chief argued that air power is the first instrument a country reaches for when its interests are at stake. A fleet of the world's best aircraft, he said, counts for little unless the force can move quickly and confidently the moment it is called, so readiness rather than inventory is the real measure of strength. He cited Operation Sindoor as evidence of how fast the service switched to combat flying and air defence work.
Self-reliance, space and joint operations
Atmanirbharta was named the guiding principle for the years ahead. Emerging tools such as artificial intelligence and autonomous systems will be absorbed, the air chief said, with human authority left at the centre of decisions. Space, he added, is a natural extension of the air domain, and he pointed to widening work with ISRO and Indian space companies, including the force's role in the Gaganyaan mission. Joint planning and integrated combat work with the Army and the Navy, he noted, is now a daily routine rather than an occasional drill.
Citations, displays and what comes next
Five unit citations were presented, to 24 Squadron 'The Hawks', 110 Helicopter Unit 'The Vanguards', 200 Squadron 'Skanda', 2402 Squadron 'Vajra' and the Electronic Warfare Range. Team Shakti, the all-women air warrior drill team, performed, as did a drummers team of 33 young air warriors with snare, roto and bass drums. A static park put fighters, helicopters, surface-to-air and surface-to-surface guided weapon systems, radars and one-way attack unmanned systems on view, underlining the Make in India push. A vintage Tiger Moth flew with the Heritage Flight. The Air Force Day aerial display will be staged at Namo Ghat in Varanasi on 25 October 2026.

Remember the anniversary (94th), the date (8 October 2026), the venue (Air Force Station Hindan, Ghaziabad), who reviewed the parade (Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh), who commanded it (Group Captain Manish Sharma), the theme, the five cited units, the all-women Team Shakti drill team and the aerial display at Namo Ghat, Varanasi, on 25 October 2026.
Practice Questions
Where did the Indian Air Force hold its 94th Air Force Day parade?
- A.Air Force Station Hindan, Ghaziabad
- B.Air Force Station Palam, Delhi
- C.Air Force Station Chandigarh
- D.Air Force Station Prayagraj
Show answer
Explanation
The correct answer is Air Force Station Hindan, Ghaziabad. The force completed 94 years of service on 8 October 2026 and held its ceremonial Air Force Day parade at Hindan, where the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, reviewed the parade in the presence of the Army and Navy chiefs, former air chiefs and other senior officers. Option B, Palam, is wrong: no part of this year’s ceremony was held there, although Palam has hosted the parade in earlier years, which is exactly why it works as a distractor. Option C, Chandigarh, is wrong because the station finds no mention in the account of the day. Option D, Prayagraj, is also wrong. The only other place named for this year is Namo Ghat in Varanasi, and that is for a separate aerial display on 25 October 2026, not for the parade itself. So the parade venue is Hindan and the later flypast venue is Varanasi.
What was the theme of Air Force Day 2026?
- A.Indian Air Force: Swift, Silent, Supreme
- B.Indian Air Force: Infallible, Impervious and Precise
- C.Indian Air Force: Touch the Sky with Glory
- D.Indian Air Force: Agile, Airborne, Aatmanirbhar
Show answer
Explanation
The correct answer is Indian Air Force: Infallible, Impervious and Precise, rendered in Hindi as achook, abhedya and sateek. The air chief explained that the three words are not a tagline but a statement of the force’s strength and resolve, matching its promise to guard the country’s skies with precision, resilience and operational excellence. Option A is invented for this question and was not the theme. Option C is wrong because “Touch the Sky with Glory” is the motto of the Indian Air Force, a permanent motto rather than a theme chosen for one year, so candidates must keep the two apart. Option D mixes in Aatmanirbharta, which the air chief did describe as the guiding principle for building capability, but that was a point in his speech and not the theme of the day. Only option B names the theme announced for this anniversary.
Which of the following units did NOT receive a unit citation at the 94th Air Force Day ceremony?
- A.110 Helicopter Unit 'The Vanguards'
- B.200 Squadron 'Skanda'
- C.18 Squadron 'Flying Bullets'
- D.The Electronic Warfare Range
Show answer
Explanation
The correct answer is 18 Squadron 'Flying Bullets', which was not among the units honoured. Five unit citations were presented at the investiture ceremony that followed the parade, and they went to 24 Squadron 'The Hawks', 110 Helicopter Unit 'The Vanguards', 200 Squadron 'Skanda', 2402 Squadron 'Vajra' and the Electronic Warfare Range. Options A, B and D therefore all appear on that list and cannot be the answer. The citation list is a favourite with paper setters because it mixes a fighter squadron, a helicopter unit, a flight unit and a ground establishment, so a candidate who remembers only aircraft names gets caught. Alongside the citations, individual air warriors were given medals for gallantry and for distinguished service at the same ceremony, which is a separate set of awards from the unit citations.
Who commanded the ceremonial parade on Air Force Day 2026?
- A.Air Chief Marshal AP Singh
- B.Group Captain Manish Sharma
- C.The Chief of the Army Staff
- D.The Chief of Defence Staff
Show answer
Explanation
The correct answer is Group Captain Manish Sharma, who led the Air Force Day Parade at Hindan. Option A is the commonest trap: Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, the Chief of the Air Staff, reviewed the parade and delivered the address, and reviewing a parade is a different role from commanding it. The reviewing officer takes the salute; the parade commander marches the contingents. Option C is wrong because the Chief of the Army Staff attended as a guest, along with the Chief of the Naval Staff, former chiefs of the air staff and other senior military officers and civilians. Option D is wrong as the Chief of Defence Staff is not named in connection with the parade at all. Remember the pairing for the exam: parade reviewed by the air chief, parade commanded by a group captain.
