Why in News

On 14 September 2026 the Ministry of Defence announced that INS Mysore had completed its participation in the 4th edition of Exercise Samudra Laksamana with the Royal Malaysian Navy at Lumut, Malaysia.

Indian Naval Ship Mysore has finished taking part in the 4th edition of Exercise Samudra Laksamana. The exercise was held with the Royal Malaysian Navy. The venue was Lumut in Malaysia. It ran from 9 to 12 September 2026. The ship was there as part of the Indian Navy's operational deployment.

How the exercise was run

The exercise had two phases. The first was the harbour phase. In this phase the personnel of the two navies held professional exchanges and interactions. The purpose was to share experience and build mutual understanding. The second was the operational phase at sea. There INS Mysore exercised with two ships of the Royal Malaysian Navy, KD Lekir and KD Gagah Samudera. The ships carried out coordinated manoeuvres at sea. The aim was to improve interoperability, sharpen operational coordination and strengthen their ability to work together.

Why it matters

The Ministry of Defence describes the completion of the exercise as a sign of the growing depth and maturity of naval cooperation between India and Malaysia. Samudra Laksamana is called another significant engagement in the expanding maritime partnership between the two countries. The exercise built on the momentum of recent bilateral meetings. Among these was the 12th India-Malaysia Sub Committee Meeting, which was held on 1 July 2026.

Points a student should note

Note the edition, which is the fourth. Note the partner navy, which is the Royal Malaysian Navy. Note the venue, which is Lumut in Malaysia. Note the Indian ship, which is INS Mysore. Note also the names of the two Malaysian ships, because question papers often ask for the participating vessels rather than the exercise alone.
