Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat felicitated 20 award-winning artists at the 65th National Exhibition of Art in New Delhi.

Why in News
Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat felicitated 20 award-winning artists at the 65th National Exhibition of Art organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi.
The 65th National Exhibition of Art, organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi, was held in New Delhi, with Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat as Chief Guest. He felicitated 20 award-winning artists for their contribution to Indian visual arts.
Who was present
Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Shri K.K. Mishra, Joint Secretary (Akademies), and Shri Rajeev Kumar, Secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi, attended. Three Padma Shri awardees were also on the dais: the photographer Shri Sudhakar Olwe, the sand artist Shri Sudarshan Patnaik and Shri Ashok Kumar Vishwas.
How artists were chosen
The Akademi's Secretary said this edition drew more than 6,000 entries, from which 270 artists were selected through a two-tier jury process. A two-tier jury screens work in two rounds, which keeps a national exhibition of this size manageable while giving lesser known artists a route in.
Art from waste
The Minister and other guests viewed works made from discarded material during the 'Seva Hi Sanskriti' workshops held at various centres of the Akademi. These workshops were organised to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Shri Shekhawat said the initiative shows how creativity and the spirit of service can meet, and praised the Akademi's 'Waste to Wonder' effort, which turns thrown away material into art and links art with sustainability.
A monograph released
A monograph on the modern Indian painter Abdul Aziz Raiba, edited by Shri Ram Gopal Khadilkar, was released at the function. Raiba was known for bold lines, vibrant colours and a distinctive blending of Indian traditional and modern styles.
Where and until when
The Secretary, Ministry of Culture, said the exhibition at Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi, has been extended until 31 October 2026, and invited the public to view it. After the programme the guests visited the show at the Lalit Kala Gallery.
Points to remember
The Lalit Kala Akademi is India's national academy of fine arts and one of the three national akademies under the Ministry of Culture. For an examination, the edition number, the organiser, the number of entries and selected artists, the venue and the closing date are the facts most likely to be asked.

Practice Questions
Which organisation holds the National Exhibition of Art, whose 65th edition was held in New Delhi?
- A.Sangeet Natak Akademi
- B.Sahitya Akademi
- C.Lalit Kala Akademi
- D.National Gallery of Modern Art
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Lalit Kala Akademi
Explanation
The correct answer is the Lalit Kala Akademi, India's national academy of fine arts, which works under the Ministry of Culture and organises the National Exhibition of Art. At the sixty fifth edition the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, was the Chief Guest and felicitated twenty award-winning artists. Option A, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, is the national academy for music, dance and drama, not for the visual arts, so it is wrong. Option B, the Sahitya Akademi, is the national academy of letters and deals with literature, which rules it out. Option D, the National Gallery of Modern Art, is a museum that displays modern and contemporary art but does not organise this exhibition, so it is incorrect too. Aspirants should keep the three national akademies and their fields clearly separated.
How many artists were selected for the 65th National Exhibition of Art through the two-tier jury process?
- A.150
- B.270
- C.500
- D.650
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 270
Explanation
The correct answer is 270. The Secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi said the edition attracted more than six thousand entries, and from that pool two hundred and seventy artists were chosen through a jury that screened the work in two rounds. A two-tier process of this kind keeps a national show of such size manageable while still giving lesser known artists a way in. Option A understates the number of selected artists and is wrong. Option C is a round figure that does not match the selection announced, so it is incorrect. Option D is closer to the scale of entries received than to the number of artists finally chosen, which makes it a tempting but wrong answer. Twenty of these artists were felicitated by the Chief Guest for their contribution to Indian visual arts.
A monograph released at the 65th National Exhibition of Art was on which modern Indian painter?
- A.Abdul Aziz Raiba
- B.Sudarshan Patnaik
- C.Sudhakar Olwe
- D.Ram Gopal Khadilkar
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Abdul Aziz Raiba
Explanation
The correct answer is Abdul Aziz Raiba. A monograph on this eminent modern Indian painter, known for his bold lines, vibrant colours and a distinctive fusion of traditional Indian and modern art, was released at the exhibition. Option B, Sudarshan Patnaik, is a Padma Shri awardee celebrated for sand art and was present on the occasion, but the monograph was not about him, so he is wrong. Option C, Sudhakar Olwe, is a Padma Shri awardee known for photography who also attended, which again does not make him the subject of the publication. Option D, Ram Gopal Khadilkar, is the editor of the monograph rather than the artist it is about, so this is the classic trap of confusing the editor with the subject. Aspirants should note both names and their different roles.
