RRB Group D GK Questions 2026

Static GK is not a separate section in RRB Group D, but it decides most of the paper's recall marks. General Science is 25 questions of Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard (CBSE) level as per CEN 09/2025, and the 20 General Awareness questions lean on the standing facts behind the news: the sport, the award, the institution, the state, the river or the scientist an event touches. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB Group D. The General Science notes go topic by topic through motion and force, work, energy and power, gravitation, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism, atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, and carbon compounds, and the Life Sciences notes cover cells, the human body, nutrition, diseases, plants and genetics. The static GK notes cover Indian Railways zones and facts, national symbols, first and largest in India and the world, awards and honours, important days, books and authors, sports GK, art and culture, and the basics of Indian Polity, Geography, History and the Economy. Each note is short facts and tables that can be revised in one sitting. Read a note, then solve its quiz and the previous-year questions on this site to check what stayed.

Q1301.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2022, GATEasy

Which of the following statements about living and non-living being is/are correct? 1. While living being can demonstrate growth and repair, non-living being cannot. 2. While living being demonstrates metabolic processes, non-living being does not. Select the correct answer using the code given below.

  1. A.1 only
  2. B.2 only
  3. C.Both 1 and 2
  4. D.Neither 1 nor 2
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Both 1 and 2

Growth with repair and metabolism are two of the features that mark living beings off from non-living things. A living body grows from inside by making new cells from the food it takes in, and it heals wounds and replaces worn-out tissue.

Browning of the chopped apple can be minimized by:

  1. A.using table sugar.
  2. B.preserving in a container.
  3. C.using lemon juice.
  4. D.using milk of magnesia.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. using lemon juice.

Lemon juice is acidic and rich in vitamin C, which together slow the enzyme reaction that browns cut apple. When an apple is cut, the enzyme polyphenol oxidase in its cells meets oxygen in the air and oxidises the fruit's phenolic compounds into brown pigments (melanins).

Lactic acid is formed in the muscles during exercise or running. It is formed :

  1. A.to give extra energy from fat.
  2. B.to give extra oxygen from lungs.
  3. C.to give extra energy from glucose.
  4. D.to give extra energy from vitamins.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. to give extra energy from glucose.

When oxygen runs short during hard exercise, muscle cells break glucose down anaerobically, and lactic acid is the by-product. In glycolysis, which takes place in the cytoplasm, one molecule of glucose splits into two molecules of pyruvate and yields a little ATP.

Q1305.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2023, Paper IEasy

The lymph is mainly formed from the plasma of blood and it surrounds the cells. The main difference between blood and lymph is :

  1. A.Lymph does not contain red blood cells.
  2. B.Lymph does not contain white blood cells.
  3. C.Lymph contains both red blood cells and white blood cells.
  4. D.Lymph does not contain any cells.
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Lymph does not contain red blood cells.

Lymph is plasma that has leaked out of the capillaries, and red blood cells are too large to pass through the capillary walls.

Which of the following statements are correct regarding the general difference between plant and animal cells ? 1. Plant cells have cellulose cell walls whilst animal cells do not. 2. Plant cells do not have plasma membrane unlike animal cells which do. 3. Mature plant cell has one large vacuole whilst animal cell has many small vacuoles. Select the correct answer using the code given below:

  1. A.1 and 2 only
  2. B.2 and 3 only
  3. C.1 and 3 only
  4. D.1,2 and 3
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 1 and 3 only

Plant cells have a cellulose wall and one large central vacuole, but they do have a plasma membrane, just like animal cells.

Q1310.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2018, GATMedium

Which one of the following is NOT true for bleaching powder?

  1. A.It is used as a reducing agent in chemical industries
  2. B.It is used for bleaching wood pulp in paper factories
  3. C.It is used for disinfecting drinking water
  4. D.It is used for bleaching linen in textile industry
Show answer
Correct answer: A. It is used as a reducing agent in chemical industries

Bleaching powder is an oxidising agent, not a reducing agent, so this statement is the false one. Bleaching powder, calcium oxychloride (CaOCl₂), is made by passing chlorine gas over dry slaked lime, Ca(OH)₂.

Q1313.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2023, GATEasy

One advantage of sexual reproduction over asexual reproduction is that it helps species to survive over long evolutionary time. This is because sexual reproduction produces :

  1. A.more offspring in each reproductive cycle.
  2. B.robust and healthy offspring.
  3. C.genetically similar offspring.
  4. D.more variation in offspring.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. more variation in offspring.

Sexual reproduction mixes the genes of two parents, so the young differ from each other and from their parents, and variation helps a species survive changing conditions.

Q1314.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2025, GATEasy

Why a fielder in the ground gradually pulls his hands backward while catching a fast moving cricket ball ?

  1. A.To reduce the acceleration of the ball
  2. B.To increase the acceleration of the ball
  3. C.To increase the velocity of the ball
  4. D.None of above
Show answer
Correct answer: A. To reduce the acceleration of the ball

Pulling the hands back stretches the time in which the ball stops, so its deceleration and the force on the hands become smaller.

Q1319.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2023, GATEasy

In a plant cell, which one of the following contains their own DNA ?

  1. A.Nucleus and Endoplasmic Reticulum
  2. B.Ribosome and Golgi apparatus
  3. C.Mitochondria and Chloroplast
  4. D.Chloroplast and Vacuoles
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Mitochondria and Chloroplast

Besides the nucleus, these are the only organelles of a plant cell that carry their own DNA. Mitochondria and chloroplasts have small circular DNA molecules and their own 70S ribosomes, so they can make some of their own proteins and divide on their own.

A body sinks in water when

  1. A.density of water is greater than density of body
  2. B.density of water is less than density of body
  3. C.density of water is equal to density of body
  4. D.the body is heavy
Show answer
Correct answer: B. density of water is less than density of body

A body sinks when its weight is greater than the buoyant force of the water it displaces, which happens when it is denser than water.
