RRB Group D GK Questions 2026

Static GK is not a separate section in RRB Group D, but it decides most of the paper's recall marks. General Science is 25 questions of Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard (CBSE) level as per CEN 09/2025, and the 20 General Awareness questions lean on the standing facts behind the news: the sport, the award, the institution, the state, the river or the scientist an event touches. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB Group D. The General Science notes go topic by topic through motion and force, work, energy and power, gravitation, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism, atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, and carbon compounds, and the Life Sciences notes cover cells, the human body, nutrition, diseases, plants and genetics. The static GK notes cover Indian Railways zones and facts, national symbols, first and largest in India and the world, awards and honours, important days, books and authors, sports GK, art and culture, and the basics of Indian Polity, Geography, History and the Economy. Each note is short facts and tables that can be revised in one sitting. Read a note, then solve its quiz and the previous-year questions on this site to check what stayed.

Which of the following statements is INCORRECT?

  1. A.Food from the stomach passes into the small intestine
  2. B.Complete digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats takes place in the small intestine
  3. C.Saliva contains an enzyme called salivary lipase that breaks down starch into simple sugar
  4. D.Food enters the stomach through the oesophagus (esophagus)
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Saliva contains an enzyme called salivary lipase that breaks down starch into simple sugar

Amylase breaks starch into the sugar maltose; a lipase works on fat, and saliva carries no significant lipase, so the statement pairs the right action with the wrong enzyme.

Q3631.Environment & EcologyEasy

Carbon dioxide forms about what share of the atmosphere by volume?

  1. A.About 0.04 per cent
  2. B.About 4 per cent
  3. C.About 21 per cent
  4. D.About 0.9 per cent
Show answer
Correct answer: A. About 0.04 per cent

Carbon dioxide is a trace gas, roughly four hundredths of one per cent of dry air by volume, yet it is the source of all the carbon that photosynthesis fixes into food and the chief gas by which human activity is warming the planet.

Q3632.Environment & EcologyEasy

In the water cycle, the loss of water vapour from the aerial parts of plants is called

  1. A.Evaporation
  2. B.Transpiration
  3. C.Condensation
  4. D.Percolation
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Transpiration

Transpiration is the escape of water vapour from a plant, chiefly through the stomata of the leaves, and over a forest or a crop field it returns a large volume of water to the air; together with evaporation from open surfaces it is called evapotranspiration.

Q3633.Environment & EcologyMedium

Apart from the oceans, the largest store of water on the earth is

  1. A.Rivers and lakes
  2. B.Glaciers and polar ice
  3. C.Water vapour in the atmosphere
  4. D.Soil moisture
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Glaciers and polar ice

About ninety-seven per cent of the water on earth is salt water in the oceans, and of the small freshwater remainder the greater part is locked up as ice in glaciers and the polar ice sheets, with most of what is left held as groundwater.

Lightning contributes to the nitrogen cycle by

  1. A.Killing denitrifying bacteria
  2. B.Combining atmospheric nitrogen with oxygen to form oxides of nitrogen
  3. C.Breaking down humus in the soil
  4. D.Releasing phosphate from rock
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Combining atmospheric nitrogen with oxygen to form oxides of nitrogen

The very high temperature of a lightning discharge supplies enough energy to break the triple bond of nitrogen, and the atoms join oxygen to give nitric oxide and then nitrogen dioxide, which dissolve in rain as nitrous and nitric acid and reach the soil as nitrate; this is physical or…

Q3635.Environment & EcologyMedium

The enzyme responsible for biological nitrogen fixation is

  1. A.Nitrogenase
  2. B.Nitrate reductase
  3. C.Carbonic anhydrase
  4. D.Catalase
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Nitrogenase

Nitrogenase is the enzyme complex, containing molybdenum and iron, that breaks the triple bond of the nitrogen molecule and joins the atoms with hydrogen to make ammonia; it is destroyed by oxygen, which is why a root nodule keeps leghaemoglobin to mop oxygen up.

Q3637.Environment & EcologyMedium

Denitrification, which returns nitrogen to the atmosphere, is carried out mainly by

  1. A.Nitrosomonas and Nitrococcus
  2. B.Azotobacter and Clostridium
  3. C.Pseudomonas and Thiobacillus
  4. D.Nostoc and Anabaena
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Pseudomonas and Thiobacillus

Denitrification is the reduction of nitrate to nitrogen gas, which escapes to the atmosphere and completes the nitrogen cycle; it is carried out by these bacteria in waterlogged soils where oxygen is scarce, and it is the reason farmers lose nitrogen from flooded fields.

Q3639.Environment & EcologyEasy

Rhizobium fixes atmospheric nitrogen in the root nodules of

  1. A.Leguminous plants
  2. B.Cereals such as wheat and rice
  3. C.Conifers
  4. D.Mosses
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Leguminous plants

Rhizobium is a bacterium that lives in a symbiotic relationship with legumes such as gram, pea, bean, groundnut and arhar, forming nodules on their roots in which it converts nitrogen gas into ammonia using the enzyme nitrogenase; this is why legumes are grown in rotation to restore soil nitrogen.

Q3640.Environment & EcologyMedium

Which of the following biogeochemical cycles has no gaseous phase?

  1. A.Carbon cycle
  2. B.Nitrogen cycle
  3. C.Phosphorus cycle
  4. D.Oxygen cycle
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Phosphorus cycle

Phosphorus has no stable gaseous compound in nature, so its reservoir is rock, chiefly the mineral apatite; it enters the soil only through slow weathering, passes through plants and animals, and returns to sediments, which makes it a purely sedimentary cycle and the slowest of the common cycles.
