Consider the following States : 1. Nagaland 2. Assam 3. Mizoram 4. Tripura The State of Arunachal Pradesh has common boundary with which of the above States of India ?

  1. A.1 and 2 only
  2. B.2 and 3
  3. C.1,2 and 4
  4. D.1,3 and 4

Correct answer

A. 1 and 2 only

Explanation

The correct answer is A, 1 and 2 only. Among the four States listed, only Assam and Nagaland touch Arunachal Pradesh.

Arunachal Pradesh is the largest State of the North-East by area. Its long southern edge runs along Assam, from the Brahmaputra plains near Dhemaji and Lakhimpur to Tinsukia, and its south-eastern corner meets Nagaland near the Tirap and Longding districts. On the other sides it has international borders with Bhutan to the west, China (Tibet) to the north and Myanmar to the east. So Arunachal shares State boundaries with just two Indian States.

B is wrong because Mizoram lies far to the south, bordering Assam, Manipur and Tripura, not Arunachal. C is wrong because Tripura is in the south-west of the region and touches only Assam and Mizoram within India. D is wrong because it leaves out Assam and adds Mizoram and Tripura, which are nowhere near Arunachal.

Exam tip: Arunachal Pradesh touches only Assam and Nagaland in India, and Bhutan, China and Myanmar abroad.
