Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. 1. A.of variable refractive index
  2. B.made up of slabs of different refractive indices
  3. C.homogeneous and transparent
  4. D.inhomogeneous and transparent
Show answer
Correct answer: C. homogeneous and transparent

Light keeps to a straight line only while its speed stays the same, which happens in a homogeneous, transparent medium.

Q862.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-I 2017, GKMedium

Which one of the following statements is not correct?

  1. A.The cathode rays originate from cathode and proceed towards the anode in a cathode-ray discharge tube.
  2. B.The television picture tubes are nothing but cathode-ray tubes.
  3. C.The cathode rays themselves are not visible.
  4. D.The characteristics of cathode rays depend upon the nature of the gas present in the cathode-ray tube.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The characteristics of cathode rays depend upon the nature of the gas present in the cathode-ray tube.

. Cathode rays behave the same whatever gas is in the tube, so the statement that they depend on the gas is not correct.

Q866.GeographyAsked in: CDS · CDS-II 2023, GKMedium

Which of the following pairs is/are correctly matched ? Plateau : Continent 1. Abyssinian : Africa 2. Patagonian : Australia 3. Anatolian : Asia 4. Iberian : North America Select the correct answer using the code given below:

Q870.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-I 2021, GKEasy

Osmosis is the process of movement of water molecules from its

  1. A.higher concentration to its lower concentration through a cell wall.
  2. B.lower concentration to its higher concentration through a fully permeable membrane.
  3. C.higher concentration to its lower concentration through a fully permeable membrane.
  4. D.higher concentration to its lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. higher concentration to its lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.

Osmosis is the passage of water from where water is more concentrated (a dilute solution) to where it is less concentrated, across a membrane that lets water through but holds back solutes.

Q872.Indian HistoryAsked in: CDS · CDS-II 2026, GKMedium

Why do you think Vijayanagara incorporated agricultural tracts within the fortified area ?

  1. A.To promote high yield agriculture under State supervision
  2. B.To protect the agricultural belt from the sieges of an invading army
  3. C.To protect the agriculture from stray animals

Q873.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-II 2016, GKMedium

Liquids and gases never show

  1. A.diamagnetic property
  2. B.paramagnetic property
  3. C.ferromagnetic property
  4. D.electromagnetic property
Show answer
Correct answer: C. ferromagnetic property

Ferromagnetism needs the atomic magnets of a substance to line up together in fixed regions called domains, and this happens only in the ordered structure of a solid.

Q874.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-I 2017, GKEasy

The chemical properties of an element depend upon

  1. A.the number of isotopes of the element
  2. B.the mass number of the element
  3. C.the total number of neutrons in the element
  4. D.the number of electrons in the outermost shell of the element
Show answer
Correct answer: D. the number of electrons in the outermost shell of the element

Chemical reactions involve only the outer, or valence, electrons, so these decide how an element behaves. Atoms combine by losing, gaining or sharing their valence electrons to reach a stable arrangement, usually eight electrons in the outer shell.

Q877.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-II 2019, GKEasy

  2. B.Mitochondria
  3. C.Nucleolus
  4. D.Cell wall
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Cell wall

Animal cells are bounded only by a flexible plasma membrane and have no rigid cell wall outside it. A cell wall is found in plants, where it is made mainly of cellulose, in fungi, where it is made of chitin, and in bacteria, where it is made of peptidoglycan.
