NDA GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for NDA, in English and Hindi, written as short facts and tables. Read a topic, then solve its quiz and previous-year questions on this site.

The body's weight stays the same, but standing puts it on the small area of the feet, so the pressure is greater.

Q4146.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-II 2023, GKEasy

If the Moon is brought closer to the Earth such that its distance from the Earth becomes half of the original distance, then the gravitational force of attraction between the Earth and the Moon would :

  1. A.reduce to half of its original value.
  2. B.increase to two times of its original value.
  3. C.remain the same as the original value.
  4. D.increase to four times of its original value.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. increase to four times of its original value.

Gravitational force varies inversely as the square of the distance, so halving the distance makes the force 2 × 2 = 4 times larger.

  1. A.1 only
  2. B.2 only
  3. C.Both 1 and 2
  4. D.Neither 1 nor 2
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Both 1 and 2

S-waves are transverse waves: they shake the ground at right angles to their direction of travel, and that sideways motion forms crests and troughs.

Q4151.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2019, Paper IEasy

Which one of the following statements is correct ?

  1. A.Bacteria contain cytoplasm but viruses do not
  2. B.Bacteria contain mitochondria but viruses do not
  3. C.Viruses contain mitochondria but bacteria do not
  4. D.Viruses have a cell membrane but bacteria do not
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Bacteria contain cytoplasm but viruses do not

A bacterium is a living cell filled with cytoplasm, while a virus is only genetic material inside a protein coat.

Q4154.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2018, Paper IEasy

Lowering the atmospheric pressure on a liquid

  1. A.increases the boiling point of the liquid
  2. B.lowers the boiling point of the liquid
  3. C.does not affect the boiling point of the liquid
  4. D.increases the time required for it to boil
Show answer
Correct answer: B. lowers the boiling point of the liquid

A liquid boils when its vapour pressure equals the pressure above it, so less outside pressure means boiling starts at a lower temperature.

Q4155.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2020, Paper IEasy

Magnesium is used in

  1. A.fireworks to make a bright white light
  2. B.gemstones in jewellery
  3. C.examination of alimentary canal of the patient
  4. D.purification of water
Show answer
Correct answer: A. fireworks to make a bright white light

Magnesium burns in air with a dazzling white flame, which is why it goes into fireworks, sparklers and flares. When magnesium ribbon is heated it reacts with oxygen to form white magnesium oxide (2Mg + O2 → 2MgO), giving out intense heat and brilliant white light, including ultraviolet.

Q4156.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2021, Paper IEasy

Which one of the following statements with regard to a short-sighted person is correct?

  1. A.A short-sighted person sees the near objects blurred but distant objects clearly and a convex lens is used to correct this defect.
  2. B.A short-sighted person sees the near objects clearly but distant objects blurred and a concave lens is used to correct this defect.
  3. C.A short-sighted person sees the near objects blurred but distant objects clearly and a concave lens is used to correct this defect.
  4. D.A short-sighted person sees the near objects clearly but distant objects blurred and a convex lens is used to correct this defect.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. A short-sighted person sees the near objects clearly but distant objects blurred and a concave lens is used to correct this defect.

A short-sighted (myopic) person sees near things clearly but distant things blurred, and a concave lens corrects it.

Q4157.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2018, Paper IHard

Which of the following statements about optical microscope is/are correct? 1. Both the eyepiece and objective of a microscope are convex lenses. 2. The magnification of a microscope increases with increase in focal length of the objective. 3. The magnification of a microscope depends upon the length of the microscope tube. 4. The eyepiece of a microscope is a concave lens. Select the correct answer using the code given below.

  1. A.1 and 3
  2. B.3 only
  3. C.3 and 4
  4. D.1,2 and 4
Show answer

Which one of the following statements with regard to greenhouse effect is correct?

  1. A.It can take place inside a glass chamber where no radiation can pass into it or pass back through it
  2. B.It can take place inside a glass chamber where long wavelength infrared radiation can pass through into it and short wavelength infrared radiation cannot pass back through it
  3. C.It can take place inside a glass chamber where short wavelength infrared radiation can pass through into it and long wavelength infrared radiation cannot pass back through it
  4. D.It can take place inside a glass chamber where all infrared radiation can pass into it or pass back through it
Show answer
Correct answer: C. It can take place inside a glass chamber where short wavelength infrared radiation can pass through into it and long wavelength infrared radiation cannot pass back through it

Sunlight reaching a glasshouse is mostly visible light and short-wavelength (near) infrared, which glass transmits easily. The plants and soil inside absorb it, warm up and re-radiate the energy as long-wavelength infrared, because cooler bodies emit at longer wavelengths.
