CDS GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the 100 marks of the CDS General Knowledge paper. Of the 120 questions in the CDS (II) 2026 paper, about 20 were on Indian Polity, about 20 on the History of India, about 15 on Geography and the environment, about 10 on the Indian Economy and about 37 on Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which makes CDS the most science-heavy General Knowledge paper among the major recruitment exams. Polity questions test writs, the NHRC, electoral systems, disqualification of legislators, GST and delimitation. History runs from the Upanishads and the Shunga dynasty to Vijayanagara, temple architecture, the Sylhet referendum and the SNDP Yogam. Geography asks about the atmosphere, earthquakes and tsunamis, Ramsar sites, mangroves and World Heritage sites. Science stays at school level but expects reasoning: a lens problem, a magnetic field direction, molarity versus molality, what cooking soda is, how enzymes act. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for CDS, written as short facts and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Read a topic, then solve its previous-year questions and quiz on this site to check what stayed with you.

If by an unknown accident the acid secreting cells of the stomach wall of an individual are damaged, digestion of which one of the following biomolecule will be affected to a greater extent?

  1. A.Protein only
  2. B.Lipid
  3. C.Carbohydrate only
  4. D.Protein and Carbohydrate
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Protein only

The acid-secreting cells of the stomach, called oxyntic or parietal cells, release hydrochloric acid, which protein digestion in the stomach depends on.

Statement I: The British ruled India through a modern bureaucracy headed by the Indian Civil Service, whose members were recruited through merit based on open competition Statement II: The Indian Civil Service was based on the whole hearted participation of Indians

  1. A.Both the statements are individually true and Statement II is the correct explanation of Statement I
  2. B.Both the statements are individually true but Statement II is not the correct explanation of Statement I
  3. C.Statement I is true but Statement II is false
  4. D.Statement I is false but Statement II is true
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Statement I is true but Statement II is false

The Indian Civil Service was a modern, merit-based bureaucracy filled through open competitive examinations from 1853, but Indians were kept out of it in practice for decades.

Q1964.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2019, GATHard

A rigid body of mass 2 kg is dropped from a stationary balloon kept at a height of 50 m from the ground. The speed of the body when it just touches the ground and the total energy when it is dropped from the balloon are respectively (acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s²)

  1. A.980 m s⁻¹ and 980 J
  2. B.√980 m s⁻¹ and √980 J
  3. C.980 m s⁻¹ and √980 J
  4. D.√980 m s⁻¹ and 980 J
Show answer
Correct answer: D. √980 m s⁻¹ and 980 J

The body falls freely from rest through 50 m, so v² = 2gh = 2 × 9.8 × 50 = 980, giving v = √980, about 31.3 m s⁻¹; its total energy at release is all potential energy, mgh = 2 × 9.8 × 50 = 980 J. Because the…

Atomic mass of an element is equal to the sum of number of

  1. A.electrons and protons only
  2. B.protons and neutrons only
  3. C.electrons and neutrons only
  4. D.electrons, protons and neutrons
Show answer
Correct answer: B. protons and neutrons only

Almost all the mass of an atom is in its nucleus, so the mass number, which the question calls atomic mass, is the total of protons and neutrons, the two kinds of nucleons.

Q1966.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2021, GATMedium

Which one of the following statements is true for a simple harmonic oscillator?

  1. A.Force acting is directly proportional to the displacement from the mean position and is in same direction.
  2. B.Force acting is directly proportional to the displacement from the mean position and is in opposite direction.
  3. C.Acceleration of the oscillator is constant.
  4. D.The velocity of the oscillator is not periodic.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Force acting is directly proportional to the displacement from the mean position and is in opposite direction.

This is the defining condition of simple harmonic motion, written F = −kx, where k is the force constant and the minus sign shows that the force always points back towards the mean position.

Chandimangala, a sixteenth century text, was composed by

  1. A.Hema Saraswati
  2. B.Madhav Kandali

Inspired by the Dandi March by Mahatma Gandhi, in Tamilnadu, C. Rajagopalachari led a salt march from

  1. A.Tirunelveli to Nagercoil
  2. B.Kanchipuram to Mahabalipuram
  3. C.Trichinopoly to Vedaranniyam on Tanjore coast
  4. D.Chennai to Vellore
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Trichinopoly to Vedaranniyam on Tanjore coast

In April 1930, C. Rajagopalachari led a band of volunteers from Tiruchirappalli, then called Trichinopoly, to Vedaranyam on the Tanjore coast, where they broke the salt law.

Which one of the following statements is NOT correct?

  1. A.Water of crystallization is the fixed number of water molecules present in one formula unit of a salt
  2. B.The molecular formula of Plaster of Paris is CaSO4·2H2O
  3. C.Washing soda is used for removing the permanent hardness of water
  4. D.The atmosphere of Venus is made up of thick white and yellow clouds of sulphuric acid
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The molecular formula of Plaster of Paris is CaSO4·2H2O

The statement is false because CaSO4·2H2O is gypsum; Plaster of Paris is calcium sulphate hemihydrate, CaSO4·½H2O. When gypsum is heated to about 373 K, it loses three-quarters of its water and becomes Plaster of Paris, a white powder.

Q1974.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2026, GATEasy

Which of the following organisms show external fertilization? I. Pigeon II. Frog III. Fish IV. Lizard Select the answer using the code given below:

  1. A.II, III and IV
  2. B.II and III only
  3. C.I and IV only
  4. D.I, II and III
Show answer
Correct answer: B. II and III only

Frogs and most fishes release their eggs and sperm into water, where fertilisation takes place outside the female's body. In external fertilisation, a large number of eggs and sperm are shed together, because many are lost to currents and predators.

  2. B.Polarimeter
  3. C.Calorimeter
  4. D.Colorimeter
Show answer
Correct answer: A. GM Counter

The Geiger-Müller counter detects and counts the ionising radiation given out by radioactive substances, so it is the standard instrument for measuring radioactivity.

Compared to audible sound waves, ultrasound waves have

  1. A.higher speed.
  2. B.higher frequency.
  3. C.longer wavelength.
  4. D.both higher speed and frequency.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. higher frequency.

Ultrasound is sound with a frequency above 20,000 hertz, the upper limit of human hearing, so its defining feature is a higher frequency than audible sound.
