CDS GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the 100 marks of the CDS General Knowledge paper. Of the 120 questions in the CDS (II) 2026 paper, about 20 were on Indian Polity, about 20 on the History of India, about 15 on Geography and the environment, about 10 on the Indian Economy and about 37 on Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which makes CDS the most science-heavy General Knowledge paper among the major recruitment exams. Polity questions test writs, the NHRC, electoral systems, disqualification of legislators, GST and delimitation. History runs from the Upanishads and the Shunga dynasty to Vijayanagara, temple architecture, the Sylhet referendum and the SNDP Yogam. Geography asks about the atmosphere, earthquakes and tsunamis, Ramsar sites, mangroves and World Heritage sites. Science stays at school level but expects reasoning: a lens problem, a magnetic field direction, molarity versus molality, what cooking soda is, how enzymes act. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for CDS, written as short facts and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Read a topic, then solve its previous-year questions and quiz on this site to check what stayed with you.

CDS GK Questions with Answers

Q1261.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2023, GATHard

Sand falls vertically on a conveyor belt at a rate of 0.1 kg/s. In order to keep the belt moving at a uniform speed of 2 m/s, the force required to be applied on the belt is :

  1. A.0 N
  2. B.0.2 N
  3. C.1.0 N
  4. D.2.0 N
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 0.2 N

The force needed equals the rate at which the belt must give horizontal momentum to the falling sand: F = v × (dm/dt) = 2 × 0.1 = 0.2 N. Newton's second law, in its general form, says force equals the rate of change of momentum.

Q1265.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2026, GATMedium

Consider the following statements in case of terrestrial planets : I. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are terrestrial planets having low densities as compared to other planets. II. They lie between the Sun and the belt of asteroids. III. Their lower gravity can hold the escaping gases. Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

  1. A.I and II
  2. B.II and III
  3. C.I and III
  4. D.II only
Show answer
Correct answer: D. II only

The four terrestrial planets do lie between the Sun and the asteroid belt, but they are dense, not light, and their weak gravity could not hold on to escaping gases.

Q1267.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2017, GATEasy

The proposition 'equal volumes of different gases contain equal numbers of molecules at the same temperature and pressure' is known as

  1. A.Avogadro's hypothesis
  2. B.Gay-Lussac's hypothesis
  3. C.Planck's hypothesis
  4. D.Kirchhoff's theory
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Avogadro's hypothesis

The Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro proposed in 1811 that equal volumes of all gases, at the same temperature and pressure, hold the same number of molecules.

Q1269.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2018, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements is correct for a plane mirror?

  1. A.Its focal length is zero.
  2. B.The size of the image of an object placed in front of the mirror is slightly less than that of the object.
  3. C.The image is virtual, erect and laterally inverted.
  4. D.Its focal length is 200 cm.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The image is virtual, erect and laterally inverted.

A plane mirror always forms an image that stands upright, cannot be caught on a screen, and has its left and right sides swapped.

Q1270.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2019, GATEasy

'Black hole' is a

  1. A.huge black star which has zero acceleration due to gravity on its surface
  2. B.star which has moderate acceleration due to gravity on its surface
  3. C.star which has collapsed into itself and has large acceleration due to gravity on its surface
  4. D.star which has collapsed into itself and has zero acceleration due to gravity on its surface
Show answer
Correct answer: C. star which has collapsed into itself and has large acceleration due to gravity on its surface

A black hole forms when a very massive star collapses under its own gravity, and its pull becomes so strong that not even light can escape.

Q1271.Indian PolityAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2019, GATEasy

  1. A.a change in speed due to a change in its direction of motion.
  2. B.a change in velocity due to a change in its direction of motion.
  3. C.a change in momentum due to no change in its direction of motion.
  4. D.a constant momentum due to a change in its direction of motion.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. a change in velocity due to a change in its direction of motion.

In uniform circular motion the speed stays the same, but the direction changes at every point, so the velocity keeps changing.

Q1276.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2025, GATEasy
