CDS GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the 100 marks of the CDS General Knowledge paper. Of the 120 questions in the CDS (II) 2026 paper, about 20 were on Indian Polity, about 20 on the History of India, about 15 on Geography and the environment, about 10 on the Indian Economy and about 37 on Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which makes CDS the most science-heavy General Knowledge paper among the major recruitment exams. Polity questions test writs, the NHRC, electoral systems, disqualification of legislators, GST and delimitation. History runs from the Upanishads and the Shunga dynasty to Vijayanagara, temple architecture, the Sylhet referendum and the SNDP Yogam. Geography asks about the atmosphere, earthquakes and tsunamis, Ramsar sites, mangroves and World Heritage sites. Science stays at school level but expects reasoning: a lens problem, a magnetic field direction, molarity versus molality, what cooking soda is, how enzymes act. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for CDS, written as short facts and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Read a topic, then solve its previous-year questions and quiz on this site to check what stayed with you.

Q421.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2017, GATMedium

The time period of a simple pendulum made using a thin copper wire of length L is T. Suppose the temperature of the room in which this simple pendulum is placed increases by 30°C, what will be the effect on the time period of the pendulum ?

  1. A.T will increase slightly
  2. B.T will remain the same
  3. C.T will decrease slightly
  4. D.T will become more than 2 times
Show answer
Correct answer: A. T will increase slightly

Heat makes the copper wire expand a little, and a longer pendulum swings a little more slowly. The time period of a simple pendulum is T = 2π√(L/g), so it grows with the square root of the length.

Q422.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2017, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements about energy is correct?

  1. A.Energy can be created as well as destroyed.
  2. B.Energy can be created but not destroyed.
  3. C.Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
  4. D.Energy cannot be created but can be destroyed.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.

This is the law of conservation of energy: energy only changes from one form to another. In any isolated system the total energy stays the same.

Q424.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2025, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements is NOT correct ?

  1. A.An ammeter is always connected in series in the circuit to measure the current
  2. B.A Voltmeter is always connected in parallel in a circuit to measure the voltage
  3. C.A voltmeter has a high resistance and an ammeter has a low resistance
  4. D.A voltmeter has a low resistance and an ammeter has a high resistance
Show answer
Correct answer: D. A voltmeter has a low resistance and an ammeter has a high resistance

This reverses the truth: a voltmeter has a very high resistance and an ammeter a very low one. An ammeter measures the current flowing through a circuit, so it is placed in series and the whole current passes through it.

In which of the following processes, active transport is NOT used?

  1. A.Reabsorption of amino acids and glucose from kidney into blood
  2. B.Loading sugar from photosynthesizing leaf cells into phloem tissue for transportation
  3. C.Passage of Na+ and Cl- through hydrophilic channel created by protein molecules
  4. D.Absorption of glucose and electrolytes into the bloodstream
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Passage of Na+ and Cl- through hydrophilic channel created by protein molecules

Movement of ions through protein channels is facilitated diffusion, a passive process that needs no energy from ATP. Active transport moves substances against their concentration gradient, from low to high concentration, using carrier proteins and energy, usually from ATP.
