CDS GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the 100 marks of the CDS General Knowledge paper. Of the 120 questions in the CDS (II) 2026 paper, about 20 were on Indian Polity, about 20 on the History of India, about 15 on Geography and the environment, about 10 on the Indian Economy and about 37 on Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which makes CDS the most science-heavy General Knowledge paper among the major recruitment exams. Polity questions test writs, the NHRC, electoral systems, disqualification of legislators, GST and delimitation. History runs from the Upanishads and the Shunga dynasty to Vijayanagara, temple architecture, the Sylhet referendum and the SNDP Yogam. Geography asks about the atmosphere, earthquakes and tsunamis, Ramsar sites, mangroves and World Heritage sites. Science stays at school level but expects reasoning: a lens problem, a magnetic field direction, molarity versus molality, what cooking soda is, how enzymes act. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for CDS, written as short facts and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Read a topic, then solve its previous-year questions and quiz on this site to check what stayed with you.

A pressure cooker cooks food faster by

  1. A.increasing the boiling point of water
  2. B.decreasing the boiling point of water
  3. C.increasing the melting point of water

The process of Podsolization is predominantly found in:

  1. A.Equatorial forest
  2. B.Monsoon forest
  3. C.Taiga forest

  2. B.Increase in national income to raise living standards
  3. C.Expansion of the consumer goods sector
  4. D.Expansion of employment opportunities
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Expansion of the consumer goods sector

The Second Plan put its stress on basic and heavy industries, not on consumer goods, which were left mainly to small and cottage industries.

Q3986.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2024, GATEasy

The mass of 0.5 mole of N₂ gas is

  1. A.7 g
  2. B.14 g
  3. C.21 g
  4. D.28 g
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 14 g

One mole of N₂ weighs 28 g, so half a mole weighs 14 g. A nitrogen molecule is made of two nitrogen atoms, each with an atomic mass of 14 u, so its molecular mass is 28 u and its molar mass is 28 g per mole.

Q3987.Indian HistoryAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2025, GATEasy

Which one among the following does NOT figure among the Five Principles of Panchsheel ?

  1. A.Mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty
  2. B.Equality and mutual benefit
  3. C.Peaceful coexistence
  4. D.Nuclear non-proliferation
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Nuclear non-proliferation

Panchsheel says nothing about nuclear weapons; its five principles concern sovereignty, non-aggression, non-interference, equality and peaceful coexistence.

Q3988.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2025, GATMedium

The energy, E, of a photon can be expressed as E = hf where f is the frequency and h is Planck's constant. The dimensions of h are the same as that of

  1. A.linear momentum
  2. B.angular momentum
  3. C.displacement
  4. D.torque
Show answer
Correct answer: B. angular momentum

Planck's constant has the dimensions [ML²T⁻¹], exactly those of angular momentum. From E = hf, h = E / f. Energy has dimensions [ML²T⁻²] and frequency has [T⁻¹], so h has [ML²T⁻²] ÷ [T⁻¹] = [ML²T⁻¹], with the SI unit joule-second.

Q3989.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2026, GATEasy

A person jumps from a height on soft sand. Which one of the following is the correct reason for less likely injury to the person?

  1. A.The sand exerts no reaction force.
  2. B.The sand reduces the change in momentum.
  3. C.The sand increases the impact time.
  4. D.The sand increases the momentum.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The sand increases the impact time.

Soft sand gives way slowly, so the person is brought to rest over a longer time and the force on the body is smaller.

Q3990.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2017, GATEasy

The speed of a body that has Mach number more than 1 is

  1. A.supersonic
  2. B.subsonic
  3. C.300 m/s
  4. D.about 10 m/s
Show answer
Correct answer: A. supersonic

A Mach number greater than 1 means the body is moving faster than sound in the surrounding medium. The Mach number is the ratio of a body's speed to the speed of sound in the medium around it, named after the Austrian physicist Ernst Mach.

Q3991.GeographyAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2017, GATEasy

Mariana Trench is located in the ocean floor of

  1. A.Southern Atlantic Ocean
  2. B.Western Pacific Ocean
  3. C.Eastern Pacific Ocean
  4. D.Northern Atlantic Ocean
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Western Pacific Ocean

The Mariana Trench lies in the western Pacific, east of the Mariana Islands and near Guam. It is the deepest known part of the world's oceans.

Q3992.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2018, GATEasy

Whether an object will float or sink in a liquid, depends on

  1. A.mass of the object only
  2. B.mass of the object and density of liquid only
  3. C.difference in the densities of the object and liquid
  4. D.mass and shape of the object only
Show answer
Correct answer: C. difference in the densities of the object and liquid

An object denser than the liquid sinks, and one less dense than the liquid floats. By Archimedes' principle, a body placed in a liquid feels an upward buoyant force equal to the weight of the liquid it displaces.

Q3994.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2019, GATMedium

The correct sequence of energy transfer that occurs when an apple falls to the ground is

  1. A.Gravitational potential energy → heat energy to air → kinetic energy → heat energy to ground and apple → sound energy
  2. B.Gravitational potential energy → sound energy → kinetic energy → heat energy to air → heat energy to ground and apple
  3. C.Gravitational potential energy → kinetic energy → heat energy to air → heat energy to ground and apple → sound energy
  4. D.Gravitational potential energy → kinetic energy → sound energy → heat energy to air → heat energy to ground and apple
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Gravitational potential energy → kinetic energy → heat energy to air → heat energy to ground and apple → sound energy

The apple's gravitational potential energy first becomes kinetic energy as it falls, some is lost as heat to the air on the way, and at impact the rest goes into heating the ground and apple and into sound.

Q3995.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2019, GATMedium

Which one of the following statements regarding a current-carrying solenoid is not correct?

  1. A.The magnetic field inside the solenoid is uniform.
  2. B.The current-carrying solenoid behaves like a bar magnet.
  3. C.The magnetic field inside the solenoid increases with increase in current.
  4. D.If a soft iron bar is inserted inside the solenoid, the magnetic field remains the same.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. If a soft iron bar is inserted inside the solenoid, the magnetic field remains the same.

Putting a soft iron bar inside a solenoid makes the magnetic field much stronger, so the claim that the field stays the same is not correct.
