CDS GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the 100 marks of the CDS General Knowledge paper. Of the 120 questions in the CDS (II) 2026 paper, about 20 were on Indian Polity, about 20 on the History of India, about 15 on Geography and the environment, about 10 on the Indian Economy and about 37 on Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which makes CDS the most science-heavy General Knowledge paper among the major recruitment exams. Polity questions test writs, the NHRC, electoral systems, disqualification of legislators, GST and delimitation. History runs from the Upanishads and the Shunga dynasty to Vijayanagara, temple architecture, the Sylhet referendum and the SNDP Yogam. Geography asks about the atmosphere, earthquakes and tsunamis, Ramsar sites, mangroves and World Heritage sites. Science stays at school level but expects reasoning: a lens problem, a magnetic field direction, molarity versus molality, what cooking soda is, how enzymes act. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for CDS, written as short facts and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Read a topic, then solve its previous-year questions and quiz on this site to check what stayed with you.

Q2441.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2026, Paper IEasy

Which one of the following statements about arteries is not correct?

  1. A.The inner lining is made of squamous endothelium.
  2. B.The middle layer is made of smooth muscle and elastic fibres.
  3. C.The outer layer is made of fibrous connective tissue with collagen fibres.
  4. D.Arteries have the thinnest walls amongst any other blood vessels.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Arteries have the thinnest walls amongst any other blood vessels.

Arteries have the thickest walls of all blood vessels, not the thinnest, because they carry blood away from the heart under high pressure.

Q2444.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2025, Paper IMedium

Which one of the following is not an exothermic reaction?

  1. A.Dissolution of calcium oxide in water
  2. B.Decomposition of vegetable matter into compost
  3. C.Decomposition of lead nitrate
  4. D.Dilution of sodium hydroxide with water
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Decomposition of lead nitrate

Lead nitrate breaks down only when it is heated strongly, so the reaction absorbs heat and is endothermic. On heating, lead nitrate gives lead oxide, brown fumes of nitrogen dioxide and oxygen: 2Pb(NO3)2 → 2PbO + 4NO2 + O2.

Which two connectivity initiatives did Rajnath Singh name as able to link Central Asia with broader markets?

  1. A.The Suez Canal and Gwadar Port
  2. B.The International North-South Transport Corridor and Chabahar Port
  3. C.The Belt and Road Initiative and Colombo Port
  4. D.The Trans-Siberian Railway and Vladivostok Port
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The International North-South Transport Corridor and Chabahar Port

  4. D.2027-2031
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 2026-2030

Speaking at the meeting, the Raksha Mantri reaffirmed India's support for adopting an Action Plan for the Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation Programme for exactly that span, and the plan went on to form part of the Joint Communique that the heads of delegation adopted.

Q2449.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2018, GATMedium

Which of the following statements about a fluid at rest in a cup is/are correct? 1. Pressure is same at all the points in the fluid 2. Pressure is exerted on the walls. 3. Pressure exists everywhere in the fluid. Select the correct answer using the code given below :

  1. A.1 and 2 only
  2. B.2 and 3 only
  3. C.1 only
  4. D.1, 2 and 3
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 2 and 3 only

A fluid at rest presses on the walls and has pressure at every point, but that pressure is not the same at all depths.

Q2451.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2019, GATMedium

Dinitrogen (N₂) and dioxygen (O₂) are the main constituents of air but they do not react with each other to form oxides of nitrogen because

  1. A.the reaction requires initiation by a catalyst
  2. B.oxides of nitrogen are unstable
  3. C.the reaction is endothermic and requires very high temperature
  4. D.the stoichiometry of N₂ and O₂ in air is not ideal for the reaction to take place
Show answer
Correct answer: C. the reaction is endothermic and requires very high temperature

Nitrogen and oxygen combine only when a lot of energy is supplied. The nitrogen molecule is held by a very strong triple bond, so breaking it takes much energy, and the reaction N₂ + O₂ → 2NO absorbs heat.

Who among the following invented the flying shuttle?

  1. A.James Hargreaves
  2. B.John Kay
  3. C.Richard Arkwright
  4. D.Humphry Davy
Show answer
Correct answer: B. John Kay

He patented the flying shuttle in England in 1733. The flying shuttle let a single weaver send the thread across the loom by pulling a cord, so wider cloth could be woven much faster.

A positive charge is moving towards south in a space where magnetic field is pointing in the north direction. The moving charge will experience :

  1. A.a deflecting force towards north direction.
  2. B.a deflecting force towards east direction.
  3. C.a deflecting force towards west direction.
  4. D.no deflecting force.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. no deflecting force.

The charge moves exactly opposite to the field, and a magnetic field exerts no force on a charge moving along its line.

Q2456.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2024, GATEasy

Which one of the following about different frictional forces is correct?

  1. A.Kinetic friction > Static friction > Rolling friction
  2. B.Static friction > Rolling friction > Kinetic friction
  3. C.Static friction > Kinetic friction > Rolling friction
  4. D.Static friction > Kinetic friction = Rolling friction
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Static friction > Kinetic friction > Rolling friction

It takes most force to start an object moving, less to keep it sliding and least to keep it rolling.

Red blood cells (RBCs) have

  1. A.no nucleus, no mitochondria and no endoplasmic reticulum
  2. B.nucleus, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum
  3. C.nucleus, mitochondria but no endoplasmic reticulum
  4. D.no mitochondria but endoplasmic reticulum is present
Show answer
Correct answer: A. no nucleus, no mitochondria and no endoplasmic reticulum

Mature human red blood cells lose these organelles as they develop. Red blood cells are made in the red bone marrow and push out their nucleus and other organelles before entering the blood.

Q2460.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2018, GATEasy

A ball balanced on a vertical rod is an example of

  1. A.stable equilibrium
  2. B.unstable equilibrium
  3. C.neutral equilibrium
  4. D.perfect equilibrium
Show answer
Correct answer: B. unstable equilibrium

The slightest push makes the ball fall off and it does not come back. A body is in unstable equilibrium when a small displacement lowers its centre of gravity, so the forces acting on it move it further away instead of back.
