Agniveer 2027: Army CEE and Navy INET Pattern, Syllabus, Physical Test, Eligibility and Preparation

Agniveers are soldiers, sailors and airmen enrolled for four years under the Agnipath scheme, as a distinct rank. The Indian Army selects them through an online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) followed by a recruitment rally. The Indian Navy selects them through the Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET), then a physical test, a written exam and a medical. In the Army's General Duty paper, General Knowledge and General Science carry 30 of the 50 questions, and General Awareness is a section of the Navy's test. This page gives the categories, exam pattern, GK syllabus, physical standards, eligibility, dates and pay as per the Army's Recruiting Year 2027 notifications and the Navy's advertisements for the 01/2027 and 02/2027 batches, with GK24's current affairs, GK notes, quizzes and previous-year questions for the exam.

Selection process

Indian Army

  1. Online registration on joinindianarmy.nic.in. For RY 2027 it ran from 13 February to 1 April 2026. The fee is ₹250 for each category applied for.
  2. Choice of categories. A candidate may apply for two Agniveer categories. Each needs its own form and its own CEE. Only one rally and one medical are held, for the category with the higher standards.
  3. Phase-I: online Common Entrance Exam (CEE) at a computer based test centre. Questions are objective multiple choice. Clerk/Store Keeper Technical candidates also take an English typing test during the CEE, where 30 words per minute is desirable; only those who qualify it are called for Phase-II. Marks are normalised across sessions.
  4. Shortlisting. A cut-off is applied to the written result in proportion to the vacancies. Roll numbers in merit are published on the Join Indian Army website, with a second admit card for the rally.
  5. Phase-II: recruitment rally at the Army Recruiting Office's venue: document check, Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and Physical Measurement Test (PMT).
  6. Medical examination at the rally site by an Army medical team. A candidate declared unfit can seek a review by a specialist at a Military, Base or Command Hospital within 21 days.
  7. Final merit. Bonus marks are added only to prepare the final merit. The result is declared on joinindianarmy.nic.in.

Bonus marks in the RY 2027 notification: 20 for wards of servicemen, ex-servicemen, war widows and widows (two wards only); up to 20 for sports; 5, 10 and 20 for NCC 'A', 'B' and 'C' certificates in General Duty (15 for 'C' in the other categories); 25 for NCC 'C' with the Republic Day Parade in General Duty (20 in the others); 15 for the NIELIT 'O' level in Clerk/Store Keeper Technical; and 20 to 50 for ITI or diploma courses in Technical. The cap is 25 marks, or 50 in Technical.

Indian Navy

Stage I is the Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET), held online. Candidates are shortlisted for Stage II state-wise on INET marks. Verified NCC 'C' certificate holders and sponsor candidates are exempt from INET. Stage II starts with the Physical Fitness Test; only those who pass it take the Stage II written exam and the recruitment medical. The Provisional Select List is made on Stage II written marks, state-wise for SSR and all-India for MR. Selected candidates go through a pre-enrolment medical and training at INS Chilka, Odisha.

Indian Air Force

Agniveervayu intakes are notified on agnipathvayu.cdac.in. This guide does not cover the Air Force's test, standards and dates yet; check that site for the current intake.

Exam pattern

The Army's CEE syllabi on joinindianarmy.nic.in give the number of questions per subject for each category. They do not state marks per question. Every category below adds up to 50 questions, and the RY 2027 notification allows one hour for a 50-question paper. Its marking rules give full marks for a correct answer and nil for an unattempted question. It lists no deduction for a wrong answer.

Chemistry covers elements, compounds, equations, air and water, common gases, oxidation and reduction, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilisers and atomic structure. The Army adds that the list is not complete: questions may come from outside it, but within the CBSE syllabus. The Navy publishes its INET syllabus and sample papers on joinindiannavy.gov.in.

How to prepare General Knowledge for Agniveer

In the Army General Duty and Tradesmen papers, General Knowledge and General Science make 30 of the 50 questions. In the Navy INET, General Awareness is one of four sections for SSR and one of two for MR. These are the parts where steady reading pays most.

  1. Follow the Army's list. Take the GK topics in the order the syllabus gives them, and read the GK24 GK notes on Indian History, Art and Culture, Geography, Indian Polity and General Science topic by topic.
  2. Read current affairs daily. The syllabus asks about recent events in India and the world, sports, awards and prominent personalities. GK24's daily current affairs cover these in English and Hindi from official releases.
  3. Track the Indian Armed Forces. The syllabus names them as a topic. Note exercises, appointments and new inductions as they appear in the daily news.
  4. Keep General Science at school level. The questions test fundamentals: the human body, diseases, cells, plants and animals, and everyday physics and chemistry.
  5. Practise with quizzes and past questions. Take the GK24 quizzes for Agniveer against the clock, and solve the previous-year questions on this page as they are added. In the Navy INET a wrong answer costs one-fourth of a mark, so skip what you do not know.
  6. Take the official practice tests. The Army offers a category-wise practice CEE on its website, and the Navy publishes sample papers.
