How APAC began

The conference began in 1981 as the International Pacific Conference and grew into an automotive engineering forum representing 11 countries of the Asia-Pacific region. Over the decades it has given engineering communities a place to share knowledge, build international collaboration and take up new problems across the automotive ecosystem.

What will be discussed

Technical sessions will cover future powertrains; automated, connected, safe and smart mobility; cybersecurity and artificial intelligence; software-defined vehicles and the vehicle as a digital platform; digital transformation and digital twins; vehicle dynamics and human factors; advanced materials and lightweighting; energy, emissions and life cycle assessment; and standards and regulations. Participation is expected from automotive manufacturers, component makers, technology companies, engineering service providers, research bodies, academic institutions, start-ups, and government and regulatory stakeholders.

More than a conference

Besides plenary and technical sessions, APAC 23 will have an Exposition, a Technology Theatre inside the exposition area for live presentations of new technologies, and TechHive, a platform built for mobility start-ups to show their work to industry leaders, technology experts, investors and possible customers. Business networking and engagement sessions are also planned, so that participants can see mobility innovation from several directions at once.

Why it matters for India

India is emerging as one of the world's larger mobility markets and engineering hubs, with a big automotive manufacturing base, a deep pool of engineering talent, a growing start-up landscape and rising investment in electric, connected, software-defined and sustainable mobility. By bringing APAC back to India, SAEINDIA aims to deepen engagement between India and the wider Asia-Pacific engineering community and open new paths for technology exchange, research collaboration and business development. SAEINDIA itself is a professional engineering society that works on mobility knowledge in India through conferences, technical programmes, student competitions and industry-academia collaboration.
