The plan includes 50,000 field demonstrations and 11,750 structured training sessions. Social media outreach is projected at 1.5 crore farmers, with total digital reach meant to widen to 2.5 crore. States and Union Territories have been asked to give priority to 100 districts that consume the most fertiliser.

What the campaign asks farmers to do

  • Balanced nutrient management using General Fertiliser Recommendations and the 4R principle of right source, right rate, right time and right place
  • Natural farming, spread through demonstrations and farmer-to-farmer learning
  • Integrated Nutrient Management with organic and biological inputs
  • Crop residue management, with stubble burning discouraged in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh
  • Crop diversification towards oilseeds and pulses, and use of rice-fallow land
  • Contingency plans for drought-hit parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan

Integrated Pest Management and safe, label-compliant pesticide use are also on the list, along with awareness of farm schemes. The ministry notes that more than 46 per cent of India's workforce depends on agriculture and allied work, which is why soil health affects both food supply and rural incomes.

The earlier round in June

Khet Bachaao Abhiyaan was first launched on 1 June 2026 as a month-long drive that ran to 30 June. It used 1,657 multidisciplinary teams, held over 1.34 lakh awareness events reaching 92.44 lakh farmers, and ran 6,685 training sessions on green manuring and bio-fertilisers for 4.94 lakh farmers. Green manuring in Bihar

At Pantoka Panchayat in Raxaul Block of East Champaran district, Bihar, scientists of ICAR-Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Research Institute, Motihari, explained how dhaincha and summer green gram fix nitrogen. Dhaincha can add roughly 50 to 60 kg of nitrogen per hectare, equal to 110 to 130 kg of urea, while summer green gram adds 25 to 30 kg, equal to 55 to 65 kg of urea. The meeting drew 62 farmers, of whom 41 were women.
