Preparing the budget, that is estimating the receipts and the expenditure of every department and putting the estimates together, is the work of the executive: in Madhya Pradesh the Finance Department prepares it and the Finance Minister presents it.

Chhattisgarh was created on 1 November 2000 under the Madhya Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000. Until then Madhya Pradesh was the largest state of India by area; after the separation Rajasthan became the largest and Madhya Pradesh the second largest.

Nepanagar, a planned industrial township in Burhanpur district, grew around the newsprint mill set up there in the years around independence, which used bamboo from the Satpura forests as its raw material; the town is named after the National Newsprint and Paper Mills.

Pithampur, in Dhar district next to Indore, is the largest industrial estate of the state and holds vehicle, auto component, pharmaceutical and engineering plants, along with a vehicle testing track; because of the concentration of automobile units it is often called the Detroit of Madhya Pradesh.
