Why in News

On 26 October 2026 the Central Board of Secondary Education opened the 4th National Summit on Facilitating School-to-Work Transition in New Delhi, where the Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Shri T. K. Anil Kumar, set out four priorities for linking schooling with skilling and employment.

The question of what a school leaver does next has been put at the centre of a two-day national gathering in the capital. The Central Board of Secondary Education, working with the Sahodaya School Complexes of Delhi and the National Capital Region, is holding the 4th National Summit on Facilitating School-to-Work Transition in New Delhi on 26 and 27 October 2026. Shri T. K. Anil Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, and Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Chairman of CBSE, attended along with other senior officials of the ministry and the board.

The four priorities

Addressing the summit, the Secretary set out four priorities for its work. The first is technology together with digital safety and digital skills. The second is design, creativity and innovation. The third is the recognition of skills across education systems through the National Credit Framework. The fourth is career guidance with pathways that are equitable. He argued for a seamless passage from school education into higher education, skilling and employment, so that learners can make informed choices, pursue lifelong growth, contribute to society and live with dignity.

What the summit does

The two-day meeting is meant to knit skill education more closely into mainstream schooling and to smooth the journey students make from the classroom to the world of work. It has drawn school leaders, teachers, industry experts and policymakers to discuss emerging workforce needs and new ways of preparing students for careers ahead. Participants are also using it to build partnerships and support networks among themselves.

Sessions and papers

Educators from schools affiliated to CBSE are presenting case-based papers and posters that set out success stories and good practice in skill education. Interactive sessions and expert discussions cover fresh pedagogical practices, emerging approaches to assessment, the place of digital tools in education and workable models for strengthening skill education. The summit argues for breaking down the walls between different streams of education and equipping students with the competencies an evolving job market demands, as envisaged in the National Education Policy 2020.
